"No.. No.. I cannot take it.
Indian sweets are too sweet to take and I am suffering from diabetes" , Jimmie
Carter exclaimed. But being a pure Indian of its kind George Fernandize
repeated it several time. George was able to convince Jimmie Carter the
President of America that the sweets he was offering do not possess so much
sugar contents and it would certainly not effect the presidents health.
Actaully It is story happened at January 1, 1978 in Rastrapati Bhawan New Delhi.
President of America Jimmie Carter was on the official visit to India.
President of India "Dr. Neelam Saneeva Reddy" at that time along with
Priminister Shri Morarji Desai had given a banquet to the president of America.
Atal Bihari Vajpeyee was the External Affairs Minister and George
Farnadize the Minister of Industries. All of them were present in the banquet. Shri
Vajpeyee introduced George Fernandize. Mr. George requested Jimmie Carter a
piece of sweets.
The first ever President of America on the visit of an official tour of India
took up 5.5" long creamed colored puffed sweets, broke 1"
long piece out of it and inserted it into his wet mouth. Trampled by his teeth
the material started dissolving soon and Jimmie was wondering the kind of taste
he felt in his mouth. He took another 1" piece of the same and ate it. He
couldn't stopped himself taking three sweets at a time.
Vajpayee was wondering. Then George Fernandize started praising the Sweets. He
told the most powerfull man of the globe at that time, " Local people
called it Khaaja . It hails from holy land of India called Mithila".
Jimmie was heard about the Ramayan and Mahabharat the epics of India in his
college days. And Mithila was the place of action of the heroic story of Ramayan
like Rome and Troy in Eliads and Oddesey of great poet of Greece, Homer.
Jimmie Carter liked
the puffed sweets because even being a sweets very less sugar contents it
contain. Its taste was wonderful. He liked it so much that at the same time he
ordered his personal secretary to arrange the recipe of the sweets locally
called Khaaa..Ja . His personal secretaries followed his order and later
it was learnt in India that Khaaja become one of his favorable sweets in
the Kitchen of white house in the rein of President of America Jimmie Carter in
late 70's.
India will remember
first ever visit of American president for the many collaborations and treaty
but Jimmie Carter and Mithila will remember Mithila Recipe in
WhiteHouse(American) Kitchen.
