How I identify, recognize, come to terms with, treat & prevent piles

Explanation

Piles?

  • No, not those piles underground as the foundations of buildings
  • They are the physiological piles or hemorrhoid - with blood accumulated in pimple-like structures along the walls of the rectum
  • Painful swelling of a vein in the region of the anus, often with bleeding
  • As the piles are highly-sensitive and tender, the piles are easily broken during irritation when stool is passed out
  • Once broken, the accumulated blood mixes with the stool & vice versa, causing:
  1. Blood (usually dark red, sometimes bright red) to be passed out
  2. Irritation & discomfort of the rectum
  3. Possible contamination of the circulation system by the stool or bacteria
  • 痔瘡/痔: 病, 肛門或直腸末端的靜脈由于郁血擴張而形成的突起的小結節
  • 主要分內痔和外痔兩種
  • 症狀為發痒, 灼熱, 疼痛, 大便帶血

How piles come about?

原由

  • Blood accumulation in piles along the rectum walls may be due to:
  1. Bodily imbalance
  2. Heatiness
  3. Insufficient hydration & cooling of bottom
  4. Too much chilly & spicy food in diet
  5. Prolonged sitting in heat-trapping places
  6. Depressive emotions
  • Like pimples, which are caused first by unhygienic conditions and then by skin irritation, piles can be caused by bodily imbalance which is aggravated by emotional disturbance
  • Subsequently the rectum gets irritated and the conditions are set for piles to form & wreck havoc

How do u recognize piles when u cannot see them?

症狀

  • Our body is full of sensors - we can sense these bodily feelings easily when we are not distracted
  • As experience grows, we can learn to filter out certain bodily signals that come first as warning signs & then danger signs
  • Our bowel patterns are normal in that we learn & do it as & when required
  • When piles form, our external bowel patterns changes with at first subtle differences in feelings & then gets increasingly uncomfortable, finally with blood on the stool
  • The feelings with piles are:
  1. Stinging warmth in the bowel, especially while sitting
  2. Discomfort, but not ache, in the stomach
  3. Gradual suction in the stomach and bowel reduction (can feel when we try expanding the stomach & see when the waist shrinks unknowingly)
  4. When on the toilet bowl, as the stool starts its journey along the rectum, there are pricking stings felt
  5. If the stool is forced out (like when we are in a hurry to pass), the piles are broken cleanly & blood flows, the rectum & anus go numb & one cannot help feeling discomfort & bothered (even worried)
  • Piles can be seen, just like the fetus can be scanned by ultra-sound
  • Doctors use a special equipment to insert into the rectum and physically see & examine the rectum piles' conditions

How do u come to terms with piles?

痔瘡正視

  • Piles are as much a bodily problem as an emotional one
  • We must re-train our connections with our bodies - forget everything else, refocus on the body, feel & sense it over again - do you feel any differences? Any discomfort?
  • Recognition is at the top of the hierarchy when we need to come to terms with piles
  1. The stomach feels suction
  2. The bowel feels loose
  3. The rectum feels prickly & sometimes stinging heat
  4. The anus feels numb once piles are broken
  • We must also re-train our connections with our emotions - forget all our tasks, goals, aspirations & objectives for a silent, sacred moment; refocus on the mind, feel & sense it over again - do you feel discomfort? Any misgivings? Any worries? Any anxieties? Any exaggerations or sustained forcing?
  • Physiological recognition & awareness is of utmost priority
  • The jigsaw puzzle of piles starts with a recognition of the overall situation - your conditions
  • The recognition that:
  1. Health is calling on us to slow down & calm down
  2. The body needs our tender loving care to recuperate & recover
  3. We have our limits & that we are teasing these limitations with our actions & thoughts
  4. That the body needs our attention & care - now

How to treat piles?

治療

  • There are medications to relieve the piles - but these are superficial remedies
  • The ailment is there due to us - the root of the problem
  • Are we able to see ourselves in the real light and direct our efforts towards those deficiencies or extremities?
  • For deficiencies:
  1. Drink a lot, a lot of water
  2. Eat more nutritious & digestible foods - fruits, vegetables, soups (just like what mom does)
  3. Pay full attention to our bodily & mind feelings - do not ignore warning signals
  • For extremities:
  1. Do not sit too long - try shifting more often & walking; shift the seat padding; use cooling seat paddings
  2. No more or reduce intake of roasted, fried, chilly, spicy foods especially meat - go for fresh, boiled & steamed cooked foods
  3. Drink coolants - tea, ginger & milk, ice-kacang
  4. Slow down & calm the pace & aspirations towards work & life - low agitation means fewer malignant piles
  • Cultivate the following as helpful living habits:
  1. Criticality of stretching: always at your free time, during rest, before meals, before & after exercise; before & after sleep
  2. Absolute care & thorough concentration: independence of time, exogenous concerns (troubles, future, past, present woes); duration of consciousness à just Me
  3. Loose clothing: not those tight-fitting ones that the media advertise so much, are harmful & constricts our bodies à tight body, tight mind
  4. No lust: promiscuity enlarges the reproductive systems, especially the prostate à increases confining pressure on the piles à no lust, no enlargement, no pressure, no pile irritation
  5. Massage stomach: ensure flabby, flexible & well-breathed

Pile-stool passing toilet techniques?

痔瘡排便方法

  • As piles take time to form, they also take time to ease away
  • As long we do not provide the bodily & emotional conditions for them to take root, they would perish
  • However, during the transition towards a pile-less life, we still need to handle piles appropriately (in order not to delay recovery)
  • This is similar to mosquito bites - if the bite is there & it is itchy, but we do not scratch & irritate it further than it already is, it would disappear faster & with minimal damage or irritations to ourselves
  • With this, I introduce the following step-by-step pile-stool passing toilet techniques:
  1. Before toilet: drink lots of water & eat fresh foods, calm down & be in a joyous mood
  2. Before stool movement: relax fully, forget all thoughts & wait patiently; the bowel would automatically push the stool down; do not force it yourself (forcing tenses the muscles & rectum walls & irritates the fragile piles); tolerate all rectal pulsation; just feel the agony, but do not re-act on it
  3. Before stool exit: as the stool is traveling down the rectum into & out of the anus, it would inevitably rub & irritate the piles; being in a relaxed mood helps in rectum lubrications, muscle relaxation & lessen pile irritation; at this point, comforting your stomach by hand massaging works well
  4. Stool passing the piles: as the stool rubs the piles, a prickly feeling comes (this is a warning sign); relax the entire body immediately; never force the stool out; if the stinging is still increasing, try gently holding back the stool movement (not with the rectum or anus but with the bowel only) until the stinging completely disappears; think peace 和, 平, 安, 樂; repeat consistently
  5. Stool exit: as the piles are more concentrated near to the anus, it is crucial to relax the anus; any forcing would rub the stool (especially if hardened from constipation) against the fragile piles; let the stool simply flows out (note even fluid stool would break piles when it is forced); release only at the most inattentive phase
  • Bear this in mind - Patience
  • 忍一時風平浪靜, 退一步海闊天空
