THE SAINT VITUS DANCE (II)

spring brought you
the hideous
laughter of the idiot

the black flowers of the moldau
blossoming
& the raven trees
over the jewish cemetary

in red army square--
the torpor of flowers
dancing
like revived corpses

on the night
of jan palach's funeral--
you heard finitude sing
yourself
fluttering above the consonants

a name
died on your tongue
(ash-white
death ... )

waiting for the pantomime to end:

staggered
through crowds of swaying bovine faces

the golem of narcissism--
its voice
               of inner fear

driving each man & women
toward some private attrocity
like playing cards before the wind ...
