The Blood Red Dress
HOME
The Blood Red Dress, originally known as the Death Dress because of the photo below, is another of Arwen's beautiful dresses full of symbolism.  Only the symbolism of this dress is yet to be revealed as it was a supposed TTT dress which did not make an appearance.  It is a shame really as it is a gorgeous dress.

It was originally named the Death Dress as it was rumoured to be in a flash forward of Arwen's Death, where she has just visited Aragorn's grave and then goes to her room in Rivendell, lays down and dies.

It was renamed the Blood Red Dress because of the blood red colour of the sleeves.

The dress is supposedly made up of two dresses, a 'black' overdress and a red paisley underdress.  The reason I have highlighted the word 'black' is because the overdress is actually made out a Midnight Blue velvet.  This information was mentioned in an interview with LOTR's costume designer, Ngila Dickson.

You can actually see a blue hue on the dress in the picture above on her right side, but on the picture opposite there is no sign of any blue hues anywhere and the dress looks totally black.

Luckily the fabric I used for my overdress was a dark navy.  When I was purchasing it, I thought it was black.  So the dress I made was more authentic than I thought.

I actually made this dress for a friend to wear to the TTT opening night at our local cinema, but unfortunately she couldn't wear it as I had had a few problems with the trim used and so it was not ready on time, although it is finished now, only 3 days after the opening night.

On the pages featured you will find out how I made the dress and what patterns and fabric I used.
