LIMITATIONS, IF
by John Dutterner
(Based on a photograph by Amy Wade)

Chains     across the sky

(Don’t forget to breathe)

believed to be decorations,  no—

          the extent of

Us, standing sideways

  on the edge of this

     prison of mud

  Don’t forget to breathe

There are

         chains    across the sky

yet--  through erosion

                           we have made

a space between two links

where we can evaporate

          into   Living
