The Tomb
Raider:
Bakura-sama,
King of Thieves
Bakura is
the self-proclaimed King of Thieves and man, does this guy have an ego.
Unfortunately, his swollen head's pretty
well earned, since he's got the skills to back his claims. Bigger,
badder and buffer than his modern counter-part, this Bakura seems to
be the thorn in the Pharaoh's side.
|
He is the only one to dare, and succeed to break into the
former Pharaoh's tomb, dragging out, not only a portion of the
treasures within, but the corpse of the ex-pharaoh himself,
and then presenting it with pride to Yami and his court.
Then and there, he challenges the
Pharaoh to a duel. The stakes: If he won, he'd get all seven
Millennium Items and Yami would have to renounce his status
and wealth. If Yami won, Bakura's life was forfeit.
Bakura had no problems holding his
own against Yami's six priests, and in the end, he forced Yami
himself to intervene and attack with Obelisk before he was
beaten back. He did however, not hold his end of the
bargain, and escaped to fight another day.
Besides his thieving skills, once Bakura
wins the Ring (in a fight against a Priest inside the
ex-pharaoh's tomb), his powers increase ecponentially. He's
able to manipulate memories, lift people and throw them into
walls, imprint a part of himself into items, cut people up
without touching them, steal people's souls and, of course,
locate other items.
Armed with those skills, he sets out
to claim the Items by taking all the Holders out, one by one. |
Bakura's old look
|
Six-pack! **giggles**
Okay, sorry. Yami B. seems to be older in the past... or maybe
its just because he's so much more muscular than Ryou. His
hair's shorter and he's got three connecting scars on the
right side of his face.
He tends to wear a red overcoat, a
white hooded robe that goes to about knee length and that
skirt thingy. O, and jewelry, did I forget to mention jewelry? |

Diaboundo, Bakura's soul monster
So what's the shadow monster that best represents Bakura? Dark
Necrophia? Change of Heart? Nope, it's Diaboundo! Now you're saying,
"What the hell is Diaboundo? I've never heard of it!"
Well, I don't think it was ever made into a card. My theory is that
no record of it was ever made by the Egyptians, and therefore there
was no trace of it for Pegasus to pick up and create a card version.
There seem to be a number of monsters that existed then that were
never brought into modern times. Seto's soul monster seems to
be another such one.
Now this is a monster with the potential to surpass God
(Card). It can take on 6 enemy monsters at once without
breaking a sweat.
Although it was defeated by Obelisk
once, the next time it was pitted against Slifer the Sky
Dragon it came very close to killing it.
It has a major advantage because,
unlike other monsters, Diaboundo seems to have the ability to
evolve. Bakura claims that the more his hate grows, the more
powerful Diaboundo becomes.
It's special abilities include the
ability to blend into darkness, refract light to become
invisible and pass through walls and floors at his master's
command. |

Bakura's Childhood
Not much is known except that he grew up in the village of Kuru
Eruna and that he probably had to watch as his entire family was
killed by soldiers.
|
I got a rumor from An that said Bakura was trying to get all
the Items to revive someone he loved (much like Pegasus was). She also
said it might be Princess Teanna. (Bakura and Tea?! o_O)
Personally, I'm skeptical, because the Egyptian version of Tea
hasn't shown up in the AE arc at all so far (neither have Joey or
Tristan, come to think of it) and I think the Forbidden
Memories version of Tea was an entertainer, not a princess.
|
It always seemed like Bakura was
purely on a vengeance kick to me, but he did see
a lot of people die, some of which he must have cared
for... so the resurrection angle might not be so ludicrous.
"Necromancy" would fit right in with his theme,
after all. O_o
I also got an e-mail from Kawaii
Chibi Neko saying that Bakura's
past name was "Touzoku-Oh"... I'm thinking it's probably
more of a title than a name. "Zoku" means thief
or rebel and "oh" is probably a misspelling of
"ou", which means king (y'know... Yugi-ou/Yugioh?
Game King?).
"Tou" can mean steal, child, or servant,
among other things. So one way to read it would be "servant of
King Zoku"... O_O Just think of the connotations of that in
relation to Zoku Necrophadisu!
"Child
of King Zoku" is even worse... taken literally, that would make
Seto and Bakura brothers... eh... since Akudadin might well be Zoku's
hikari.
Taken metaphorically, it might be insinuating a common
goal rather than insinuating common blood. **develops a nervous twitch in
her eye** Maybe we'll just read it as "Son of the Thief
King" and leave his parentage at that.
Thanks to Chaosmage and Bakhu for e-mailing me.
New:
Well, now
it's time for a reality check. Amiasha, Tuulikki and Fran have told
me "touzoku ou" just means "thief king". The
first kanji read "tou" is normally read "nusu~"
and means "steal". **shrugs** Oh well, it was a fun theory
while it lasted.
