The Citadel of the Lion

The Cloud Isle of Kaldun, or the Flying Fortress of Kaldun as it is often called, is over one square mile of Cormyr, drawn from the mind, magical might, and treasury of Lord Rowanmantle. Floating majestically 500' above the Sea of Fallen Stars, Kaldun guards the Neck, the juncture of the Lake of Dragons and the Sea of Fallen Stars. It is a fabulous city, with thousands of inhabitants, and Lord Rowanmantle spared no expense and effort to make it more astounding than even he originally conceived. Though its construction caused much consternation in the region, King Azoun of Cormyr was elated when Lord Rowanmantle offered to build Kaldun. Pirate activity in the Lake of Dragons has fallen by half, and even Sembia and Westgate are grudgingly and silently pleased by a sharp reduction in piracy in the western end of the Sea of Fallen Stars.

The Citadel of the Lion is Lord Rowanmantle's home and seat of power, now held by Lady Velanna as Steward of the City in Lord Rowanmantle's absence.  The Citadel is a monumental work of art, a castle the likes of which can scarcely been seen anywhere else in the Realms.

In the painting to the left, on the hills behind the Citadel can be seen two of Lord Rowanmantle's four young black dragons, Furicho and Arrikan, stretching their wings atop the small mountain known as the Dragon's Lair.
