Elaine and I moved to Monson Road in August 2000. We have a modest 3 bedroom brick-built property constructed in about 1900,  at the end of the Victorian Era.

I work as an electronic engineer and Elaine is a primary school teacher.

My work has led to an interest in low cost remote communication devices using a combination of PIC microcontrollers, the telecomms  network and low power wireless.

However, outside my professional life I have an interest in alternative technology, transport and using sustainable energy, derived from renewable or waste fuels.

I have experimented in deriving mechanical power from sustainable fuels such as wood chippings, English charcoal and coppiced wood. I am currently working on small scale wood gasification.

This I hope will lead to  the development of sustainable energy conversion devices based on Robert Stirling's 185 year old hot-air engine principles, and low tech steam engines.

I would like to think that we might find a more appropriate technology to meet the needs of both developed countries and developing worlds.

The Wastewatts Forum hosted by Yahoo Groups discusses some of the technology used for converting waste or alternative fuels into useable energy either in the form of heat or electric power.  Its primary aim is to draw attention to alternatives to petrochemical fuels and reduce the reliance of the internal combustion engine.  Other pages on this site deal with Stirling Engines, steam engines and Electric Vehicles.  For more Wastewatts links such as Wood gasification, biofuels and sustainable energy resources visit
