Strewth perked up when she heard the bugle of her grandparents and step-grandfather (Kadezath). Humming cheerfully to herself, she stood up and turned to face her grumpy brother in their temporary weyr. Two fully grown dragons, after all, did not fit in the candidate barracks. Saveth! Come on, the eggs are hatching! Impatiently, she nudged her brother's side with her snout.
Saveth growled, eyes shut tight, but it was fairly obvious he was wide awake. At least, he was now.
What d'ya want, Strewth? He muttered to his sister as he yawned and stood up, blinking faintly orange eyes at her.
Strewth just rolled her eyes at the blue-white.
You sleep too much anyway. The eggs are hatching, come on!
Saveth grumbled to himself, but followed her to the hatching sands. Maybe he could get some sleep during the hatching.

Strewth once again rolled her eyes as her brother headed straight to a dark, secluded corner of the hatching sands, lay down, and went to sleep. Honestly, Saveth would sleep through his own Impression, given the chance.
She, however, watched eagerly as the first two eggs cracked open. Nostalgically, she thought back to her own hatching, and sighed wistfully before turning her attention back to the birth of her aunts and uncles. She blinked, somehow that just didn't sound right.
The two dragons who had already hatched were a green and a large brown; the green was covered with brown speckles, while her brown brother sported speckles of pale silver. They both moved unerringly toward the human candidates as another egg hatched.
A bright blue male with dark bronze speckling on his back and flanks spilled from the egg. He sat up, looked around, and moved toward the candidates-and right past them, to the corner where Saveth lay! The bronze-speckled blue nudged the blue-white dragon, who groaned in reply without opening his eyes, thinking it was his sister wanting him to pay more attention.
Go 'way. He growled.
The blue hatchling seemed to smirk at him.
I'm not leaving until you tell them my name.
The hatchling seemed to enjoy seeing the surprised look on Saveth's face as he opened his eyes and peered at the blue. Then he sighed and sat up.
He's Netteth. The blue-white said to the watching crowd, as well as the record keeper so they could write it down. With a smug look, Netteth settled down beside his bond, watching the rest of the hatching. Saveth shrugged and did the same.
A silver-speckled green hatched and bonded next, then the large golden egg began to rock. The shell burst open as a bright golden dragoness whose body was marked with bronze speckles like her siblings' ran out, pausing in front of her bear-shifting bond. A second gold crept out of the egg, this one marked with silver instead of bronze, and she decided not to bond.
In the turmoil of the twin golds, almost nobody noticed the hatching of a small, pale blue dragon, his entire hide splashed liberally with gold speckles, even to his tailtip and legs. Strewth noticed him, however, because the gold-speckled blue bounded straight over to her and crooned up at the green-white happily.
Strewth-I'm Kamiteth. Your brother could use a bit of cheering up, I think. Kamiteth said with a deceptively innocent look on his face.
Strewth wasn't fooled, however.
I think you'd better not bother him, Kamiteth. She said warningly.
Kamiteth huffed, as if the thought of mischeif had never even crossed his mind.
We shall eat, but we'll watch my other siblings hatch before that, 'kay? And he ducked under her wings, curling up against her body. Strewth crooned and settled down beside him and her brother to watch the rest of the hatching.
Another egg was cracking, and the dragonet that emerged elicted startled gasps from the crowd. Her slick wet hide was a shiny silver, covered with speckles of green and gold. The large dragonet looked dainty, despite her size, and she seemed to smile to herself as she chose her bond.
Strewth! I hope I'm not too late to bond to you!
Strewth almost smiled, herself.
It's never too late, Kimitheth! She assured the rare female.
Kamiteth wasn't as happy about the new arrival. He ducked out from Strewth's side to confront his sister.
So, sister, wanna fight for the first bit of food? He challenged.
Kimitheth just stared at him coolly.
Staring contest. She said. He seemed satisfied with her then.
The audience had by then noticed her dual bonding, and were cheering her on as the last egg hatched. It shuddered, and all eyes turned to it. A bright bronze dragonet rolled from the shell and climbed to his feet. His body was marked with brown speckles. He squeaked in delight as he saw his bond.
Hiya, Netteth! He called to his brother before facing the blue-white Saveth, who appeared to be sleeping, though it soon became obvious he was wide awake. Hey, Mr. Droopy Face! Let's go let's go! I'm hungry!
Saveth looked up then, and sighed dramatically.
Welcome to the family, Ranth. He said with an air of resignation. He stood up, and his blue and bronze bonds followed close behind. Strewth and her bonds were already leaving as he turned to the mother of the clutch, his grandmother, then back to his two young bonds. Perhaps bonding hadn't been that bad after all.

Two turns later, the dragonets were full grown and ready to fly home. But first, they wanted to mate.
Ooh! How 'bout this one, Kamiteth? She's pretty cute!
No way, this one's much more prettier.
'Much more prettier' is not good grammar, Kamiteth. Strewth told her blue bond, wrinkling her nose.
The gold-speckled blue just shrugged, not paying attention as he and his brother watched various dragonesses at Starburst.
Whatever.
At the back of the weyr Strewth shared with her bondmates, Kimitheth rolled her eyes at her brothers checking out females.
Too many hormones in those two, methinks. She told her green-white bond. They need to chase and get it out of their system. Strewth nodded her head in agreement while the two males looked at her in disgust.
Look who's talking. Kamiteth said. You're gonna be rising soon too, you know.
Darn right! Kimitheth stated, then she turned to Strewth. I want to stay here for my flight, though, so those two better clear out. Not they could catch me anyway. She added smugly,  getting a round of 'ick's from the males. Ranth and Saveth, too. They need to get out.
Strewth rumbled in amusement.
I agree. She said.
Traitor. Kamiteth said, and Strewth ignored him.
I'll go get Ranth and Saveth.

You want us to chase? Saveth asked as he regarded his sister with trepidation.
Uh huh. And it has to be someplace away from Starburst, because Kimitheth is going to be rising soon. Strewth added.
Saveth agreed reluctantly, but his bronze bond Ranth seemed to have more enthusiasm for the idea.
Well, there is a Wyld dragon at Calyeni that I'd like to meet. The large bronze said thoughtfully. And I'm sure Kamiteth and Netteth can find someone there that they like. Maybe even you too, Saveth.
Saveth grunted noncommitedly.
Maybe.
All right, then, it's settled. Strewth said cheerfully. So get going, guys, and good luck!

There she is! Quavarioth. Ranth pointed a large, dark sunset-winged gold dragoness out to his bond and siblings.
The two blues were not paying attention, however. Their eyes were both locked on a yellow hathian dragoness of obvious ryslen descent.
Ooh! Look at that one! I wanna chase her!
No way, s
he's mine! Find your own dragon to chase.
Go chase yo
ur own tail, Netteth!
Hey! Saveth deftly flew between the two blues, keeping them from turning on each other. Stop it. You can both chase her, for all I care. He snapped. The blues calmed down, glaring at each other.
What about you, Saveth? Ranth asked quietly.
What?
Yeah! Aren't you going to chase as well?
No way, my claws are full just trying to keep the three of you out of trouble.
Hey, I resent that. Ranth said.
Alright, the two of you, then. Saveth amended.
Okay, maybe Saveth's single state wouldn't last as long as he'd thought. Or hoped. Whatever. But what non-blind male dragon could resist Anaisth, with her pearly white hide, splashed with delicate specks of golden-red amber, and expansive sunset-colored wings? Nevermind that Ranth and the two blues never gave her a second glance, enamoured as they were with their own crushes. It just showed how much sense
they had. Which is to say, none at all.
Saveth skulked around the weyrbowl, (quite a feat for a full grown dragon) keeping his eyes locked on Anaisth. He wasn't shy, he was...gathering critical information about the dragoness before actually introducing himself to her. Yes, that was it.
"Would you like me to sign you up?"
Who!? What!? Where-Oh. Saveth turned around to see a young male human behind him with a very amused expression on his face. He looked from the human's smiling face to Anaisth, sitting by the lake with her rider, and back to the male human. Was I that obvious? He said sheepishly.
"Yeah, I'm afraid you were." The human said with a chuckle. "You're Saveth, right? I know you don't have a rider, so would you like me to put your name up on the flight boards for you?"
Umm, yes. Saveth said. That would be good. Thank you.
"No problem." The human said as he walked away. Saveth dropped to the ground, releasing hsi breath in a sigh as he went back to watching the beautiful white and amber-sunset from afar.
