"Hey, Saveth, come play with us!" A young boy with messy, brownish-blond hair plopped down on the ground beside the weyrling dragon, pale blue with white wings.
Saveth opened one eye to look at the child, and inwardly growled in irritation.
No.
The young child frowned and pouted. He stood up and grabbed one pale blue foreleg, trying to get the dragon to stand up. The boy ground his feet into the dirt, tugging at Saveth's leg. "Come
on, Saveth!" He growled through gritted teeth. However, one six-year-old boy cannot move even a small weyrling dragon, so he soon gave up. "Ariia! Saveth won't come!" The boy yelled to his sister.
A young six-year-old girl with a long, sandy-blond braid the same color as her brother's ran over to them. She knelt down beside the blue-white and studied him intently until he opened his eyes again. "Saveth, why won't you come play with us?" She whined.
Saveth forced back a groan.
Because. He answered simply.
The girl, Ariia, wrinkled her nose at his remark. "'cause isn't an answer!" She said accusingly. "Come on, Reequin, he's been sitting here in the dark too long." Actually, he was curled up underneath a shady tree, which hardly counted as 'dark', but it apparently didn't matter to the children. Ariia picked up one clawed paw in her hands, and signalled to her brother Reequin to do the same. Saveth just rolled his eyes at the children's futile attempts to move him.
I'm trying to sleep. Saveth growled irritablely. The children were not intimidated, however. Ariia cocked her head curiously. "How can you sleep? It's only midday."
I'm a dragon. Saveth answered. I have the unique ability of sleeping anytime and anywhere I so choose. He said caustically.
"Really?" The children asked, eyes wide. Saveth rolled his eyes and didn't answer.
"Hey, Saveth, why do the forests go on forever?" Ariia asked.
How should I know? They just do.
"How come if most dragons grow up in just two years, then how come you an' the others are only weyrlings, even though you were born before us?" Reequin asked.
Saveth shrugged.
Time does really weird stuff here.
"Ooh! If your parents are the dragons that our parents ride, what does that make us?" Ariia piped up.
Absolutely nothing. Saveth said dryly. He rolled over in an attempt to put an end to the conversation, but Reequin was already waiting for him.
"Why are you always so grouchy?" He asked, looking at the dragon, bright green eyes wide.
Because annoying little human children always bug me when I'm trying to sleep. Saveth growled at the boy.
Reequin was hardly intimidated, however, and only scoffed as he stood up. "C'mon, Ariia, let's find Strewth. Saveth's being a
meany." He added, sticking his tongue out at the blue-white. He and his sister ran off and lunged on his green-white sister, who only laughed as she wrestled with the children.
With a grumble, Saveth stuck a draconic tongue out at the children before curling up again to sleep.
