| Overview: The BLS-2H Ballista was designed to be a mobile artillery unit and nothing more. It was intended to lend support fire for assault Mechs and be mobile enough to advance with other Mechs in combat, providing accuracy and speed that heavier "behind the lines" artillery guns could not. In the end, not very many Ballistas were produced. Its lack of armor and any short range weaponry, it was deemed, made it too vulnerable and too dependent upon other Mechs for protection. These were the Mechs that the Ballista was supposed to be supporting. It was decided that the Archer or Catapult, while not having the volume of long range fire that the Ballista offered, were more viable field Mechs due to their durability and short range capabilities. Presently, the few Ballistas that remain are seldom used. They are expensive to keep in fighting condition due to both ammunition costs and the intemal repairs of damages that the Ballista is certain to suffer in any prolonged engagement. Many existing Ballistas have lost one or more arms that have not been replaced. The arms are expensive to replace and are only used for cargo moving. Some house generals are finding the Ballista useful in anti-scout warfare since a full barrage of 50 missiles can easily cripple any scout Mech spotted patrolling too close to a lance that includes a Ballista. return to TRO: White Wolf return to LosTech Cache |
