Usagi gets into a big argument with her mother... because of omelettes. She runs away from home, but with most of her friends busy, she has trouble finding somewhere to go. Rei realises what has happened and lets her stay at the Hikawa Shrine. Rei is helping a young girl called Erika produce pictures that illustrate the story of Princess Kaguya. This is a Japanese legend involving a girl who is found turns out to be from the moon, and eventually has to return there. Erika believes that she is a Princess Kaguya, and that when her mother died she actually went to the moon. Rei held the same belief when her mother died, many years ago. The conversation about this makes Usagi feel very stupid - she's always complaining about her mother, when Rei doesn't even have a mother.

After many attempts, Zoisite has perfected his masterpiece, "Requiem for the Princess". He conjures up a monster, which sings a song that echoes all over the city. This brings destruction to princesses - including a real princess, a doll and the Princess Kaguya in Rei's pictures. Erika, who believes she is Princess Kaguya, seems to be in a lot of pain. Usagi and Rei transform and fight the monster, but Sailor Mars is knocked out by the music notes that fly from the monster's mouth. Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter arrive, but the same happens to them. Sailor Moon is left alone, but Luna encourages her to focus all her feelings of wanting to save everyone into the Moonlight Stick. Beams of energy extend from the Moonlight Stick, which destroys the monster and reverses its effects. However, someone else appears before the Sailor Guardians - Queen Beryl, the ruler of the Dark Kingdom. Her threatening comments lead Luna to reveal that the Sailor Guardians and the Princess are all from the moon.

Usagi is upset by the possibility that she is not her mother's daughter, but Luna reassures her that this isn't the case. Usagi goes back home.
