ACT 8

Aired: 22nd November 2003

Makoto and Rei get into an argument about whether it's right for them to help Usagi with her homework. Usagi wants to get it done more quickly so she can enter a contest where she has to dress up as Minako Aino's mascot, Nakonako (which looks like a bizarre blue unicorn/chicken thing in a cowboy hat). At the Hikawa Shrine, Makoto sees Rei being forced into a car, and thinks it might be a kidnapping. It turns out that Rei's father, a politician, makes Rei meet with him once a month, against her wishes. This is purely to keep up appearances for his political career - according to Rei, there is nothing approaching a real family relationship between them. In this case, Rei's father wants her to be part of an article about the perfect family, which of course she is practically disgusted about. Makoto helps Rei to escape by hijacking a room service cart. Meanwhile, Usagi and lots of other hopefuls are at the Nakonako contest, when Zoisite's music, played from within the Dark Kingdom's base, causes everyone but Usagi to faint. Jadeite teleports in and almost defeats Sailor Moon, but Sailor Mars and Sailor Jupiter arrive to help. Even then, rather than being hurt by their special attacks, Jadeite just absorbs the energy from them into a big ball. It is only his lack of experience at teleporting that causes him to prematurely return to the Dark Kingdom's base.

Important Events:
- It turns out that Zoisite's piano playing is not just for show - it helps him to align himself with Sailor V's soul, and through radios it can be used to attack people over long distances; it even seems that by using the music he can appear elsewhere as a sort of apparition, since he appears when Minako is in her limousine and is listening to the music, and I doubt he actually travelled there (unless he teleported - see below)
- Jadeite decides he wants to defeat the Sailor Guardians (Queen Beryl seems more surprised about this than anything else, but Nephrite is enraged that he'd suggest something like this when he can't even collect energy properly)
- Information is revealed about Rei's family: Her father, a politician, hates the powers that Rei has, so he gave her to the shrine to take care of her. Rei doesn't mind this - she says that being alone has made her strong. However, he continues to meet with her once a month for lunch, and she is tired of putting on this show. Rei's mother is also dead - and Rei's father did not even return home when her mother was dying!
- However, thanks to Makoto, Rei seems to have got away from this charade (if only this once)
- Rei discovers that Makoto likes cute things such as little Nakonako plushie keyrings
- In general, Rei seems to have become better friends with Makoto due to what happened in this episode - a common link between them is their lack of families, and it is partly this that caused them to bond in this episode
- It is revealed that Jadeite has a teleportation ability, referred to as "flying" (it may be that he only has this ability because of Zoisite's piano playing); however, he is not very experienced at it - after a while he gets a pain in his chest, and returns to where he was originally, unconscious
- Jadeite sees Usagi transform, which I guess means he knows that she is Sailor Moon (although whether this will prove to be anything of significance in the live action series remains to be seen)
- Zoisite knows that Minako is Sailor V, too
