The purpose of the Junior Striders Track and Field Club, Inc. (JS) is to provide all youth (8-18) interested in track and field with the opportunity to develop their athletic skills in a competitive yet friendly program.  The club aims to educate the young athlete about the latest exercise and training techniques and the necessity of physical fitness.  The Junior Striders encourage, sponsor, and promote amateur track and field competitions, race walking, and cross-country events.  Development of character through self-discipline, goal setting, and sportsmanship is encouraged.  The pursuit of excellence is stressed as the goal for all endeavors pursued by club members in athletics and in life.

The Junior Striders Track Club began in 1972 with approximately a dozen members.  It grew over the next several years and incorporated in 1977.  The organization continues to thrive and is the oldest established youth track club in the triangle area.  Coaches and parents give freely of themselves and their time to work with the youth.  Athletes show their appreciation and dedication by training very hard.  This hard work has resulted in numerous state, regional and national records.

As a self-governing, non-profit organization with the State of North Carolina, the Junior Striders Track and Field Club, Inc. is recognized by the Wake County Public School System and various local colleges and universities.  It is listed as a youth program for boys and girls ages 8-18 years old with the City of Raleigh Parks and Recreation Department, is a member of the USA Track and Field (USATF), and International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF).  The USATF is the national governing body for track and field and IAAF is the world governing body for track and field. The Junior Striders Track and Field Club, Inc is tax exempt under section 501c (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The organization operates according to club policies set forth by its Board of Directors.  The board consists of the Club Director, the Club Treasurer, officers, and appointed coaches.  The Junior Striders generate revenue from contributions and fund raisers to purchase equipment, uniforms, pay for travel expenses, and cover operating expenses.  There are no salaries for the coaches, officials, or any member of the club.  All funds are used entirely in the operation of the club, with its members benefiting directly from all proceeds.
