Memel, Prussia is now Klaipeda, Lithuania.
Other notes mention E.Y. was born in Kurland (Courland) which is now
Latvia, although the reference could also be to the Courland
Lagoon which is now Kurshskiy Zaliv and lies immediately south of
Klaipeda.
E.Y. came to England around age 15 or 16 with a friend (1877-1879?). He
left to avoid joining the army.
Notes also mention he lived with his grandparents although it is not
clear if this was in England or the old country.
