Miata Exhaust

The above picture shows a Borla stainless exhaust system for the Miata. It is also the system I bought for my car. The reason for purchasing this unit? PRICE! I got the whole unit for $250 because the dealer gave the turbo kit buyer a little break.

The installation was simple. Unbolt the nuts at the front pipe and unhook the old exhaust. I suggest using WD40 or similar lubricate to loosen the nuts first because exhaust nuts sometimes are rusted and can be stripped.

Also use a socket or box end wrench to avoid stripping the nuts. The job can become really difficult if the nuts are stripped.

1992 and newer models has a performance bar connecting the rear crossmember also needs to be unbolted.

The original exhaust was very heavy compared to the Borla exhaust. Here is a picture of the installation.

I did not like the look of the exhaust tip and it was also a bit short.

Borla exhaust is a good value compared with same class HKS or Trust exhaust systems. Both HKS and Trust systems are not stainless construction. Although I did see an exhaust from Greddy(called Trust in Japan) that was stainless. It was very pretty but expensive at around $550. I think HKS and Trust have different models.

I would recommend Borla system to a Miata owner that is interested in buying an aftermarket exhaust system.
