Logo to "Blockbusters" which originally ran on NBC from 1980-1982.
The first host of "Blockbusters" and the "dean of game show hosts" -
Bill Cullen!
On "Blockbusters" one player faces a "family pair".
The pair or person in control picks a letter, for example A, and then a question like this is asked:
What A is the state home to Nome and Anchorage and was the 49th to enter the union?
The hexagon changes to the color of whoever got it right.
Red wins by connecting blocks from top to bottom (See above) White wins by connecting left to right.
Winning two games means $1000
and the chance at $5000 more in the
"Gold Run".
Now with the letters are acronyms like ACC, etc. Connecting left to right here means $5,000. Originally after each win the "Gold Run" was played and was worth $2500. After the second win it was $5000.
Also, 60 seconds was given on the clock.
Here we see a "Gold Run" attempt...
