    Bespin is literally a world in the clouds. It is made up of billowing clouds and kaleidoscope vapors, endless sky, and dizzying drops. One would think no life would exist here but life has evolved here on this spectacular gas planet and intrepid colonist have built  floating footholds in the air.

   Bespin is unique as it is one of the few gas planets that are inhabited. The planet itself has a rolling atmosphere hundreds of kilometers deep and a core that is under a tremendous amount of pressure.  But unlike  most gas planets Bespin has a narrow band of temperate  breathable that exists  in the upper atmosphere.

     Within this "Life Zone" drift clouds of phosphorous algae and colossal jellyfish beasts called Beldons. Most creatures steer clear of the Beldons  but one creature called a velkor. A flock of these sharp toothed creatures can carve up a Beldon in a matter of minutes.
they can gulp down the chunks of flesh before it even plunges into the murky depth.

   Because Bespin is a prime source of the valuable Tibanna gas it has provided the expense of building a floating city that are expensive and tricky to build. Bespin's Tibanna gas  is naturally spun sealed which makes it very useful in boosting blaster firepower and causing it to be worth a fortune on the black market. This fact is not widely known though.

    Cloud City is not only the largest of the airborne Tibanna gas refineries but a top-notch vacation resort and entertainment complex. While in the bowels of the city the Tibanna gas is frozen in carbonite blocks for transport; in the upper levels idle tourists win or lose fortunes in the Royal, Trest, and Pair O'Dice casinos. Years ago Lando Calrissian won the city in a card game called Sabacc. Lando proved to be a capable administrator in keeping the facility running smoothly. Together with his cyborg aide Lobot, he once battled the psychotic robot EV-9D9 as she dismantled a quarter of the cities droid population.

   Later found himself in a very uncomfortable situation when the Empire arrived at his station. Darth Vader was setting a trap for Luke Skywalker and he used his old friend Han Solo a bait. He was torn between his friendship with Han and the urge to protect  his city. He had not seen Han for a long time. At first Lando went along with Vader but he finally decided that his fried needed his help. With the aid of Lobot he was able to  free Chewbacca, Leia, C3PO and R2D2. They were unsuccessful in freeing Han but were able to escape in the Millennium Falcon.

    After that Cloud City changed hands several times. Lobot remained there as computer liaison. Seven years after the Battle of Endor Luke Skywalker returned to Bespin to recruit a gas prospector named Streen to join his Jedi Academy. Five years after that Lando found his way back to the city and convince Lobot to help him solve  the mystery of  the Teljkon vagabond. Bespin still remains  one of the beautiful sights in the galaxy and remains profitable exporter despite its turbulent history.
