| Is This Labor? |

| Now that I have officially been in labor once (read my Oct. 24 and Oct. 26 entries in my journal for the whole story), I've decided to start keeping a brief (well, as brief as I am capable of <g>) log of my daily symptoms to amuse myself and while away the days. For each day, I'll record 3 things: my waking temperature (there is a theory that a drop of .5 or more degrees indicates that labor will begin within 24 hours), my G-rated symptoms (anything not gross and/or girlie), and my R-rated symptoms (anything gross and/or girlie). So come join me in my obsessing! | ||||||||||||||

| Fetal Movement: I think she is trying to tear her way out through my belly! She's pressed on me hard before, but never like this. I actually cried out a couple of times last night. Aches and Pains: Hips and pelvis a little achey, but not as bad as yesterday. Contractions: Several Braxton Hicks (BH) throughout the day. About 7, got some stabby pains near where my legs meet my pelvis and some uncomfortable tightness in back. The back pain gradually got worse and then suddenly I got the most awful pains throughout my whole belly. I really thought I had gone directly into transition, but the pain finally subsided after about 10 straight minutes, and a trip to the hospital showed no further dilation. I have no idea if this was truly a contraction or some kind of intestinal thing, but man did it hurt. |

| Discharge: Lost some more mucus plug at nearly every bathroom trip; pinkish throughout the morning. I don't know if this is spotting from the THREE internals I had yesterday or bloody show, but I'm not going to worry about it unless I find more. | ||||||||||||||

| Fetal Movement: She hasn't been active as often today, but when she has, she has moved like crazy. Aches and Pains: Woke up with hips, knees, and pelvis killing me, but that all seemed to be relieved for the most part when I got out of bed. Contractions: Just a couple of painless BH, and nothing more. |

| Discharge: Lost one or two more bits of mucus plug, but not nearly as much as yesterday, and surprisingly no pink after the horribly painful internal I had last night. | ||||||||||||||

| Fetal Movement: She's been relatively quiet today. She had the hiccups once and she's certainly moved around some, but there have been none of those "I'm going to tear my way out through your belly" movements today. Aches and Pains: Again, I woke up with achey hips, knees, and pelvis, but they lessened once I got going. Actually, the pelvis hurts almost all the time, but the other two ease up. Contractions: I had a couple of contractions this morning and early afternoon, but I really had a streak going for awhile tonight. I counted 10 between 5:00 and 7:19, but then they just stopped. Fortunately, they weren't painful, but I did have a couple that were only 5 minutes apart that started to get my hopes up. My Mood: Well, I'm feeling particularly pessimistic today and certain that she won't show up for at least another 4 weeks. I've been told that this alone is a good indication that her arrival is imminent. :) |

| Discharge: Only lost the tiniest amount of mucus plug today - much less than the past few days. Even my normal discharge seemed to dry up later in the day, which is odd. Also, I keep wondering how the heck I'll ever know if my water has broken if I don't get a gusher...after all, you've got a ton of discharge late in pregnancy, so my underwear pretty much always feel damp. If it's just a trickle, how will I ever know?? | ||||||||||||||

| Fetal Movement: Another pretty quiet day. Aches and Pains: My hips were very pretty achey through the morning, but unlike last Friday when they stopped my labor, it didnt get worse as the day went on. My pelvis was also very painful today, more painful then its been for a couple of weeks. For the little while that I was walking around this morning, each step I took was painful. Finally, my lower back is just perpetually aching. I also had periodic stabbing pains in my lower abdomen. Contractions: Ive definitely had some on and off BH again, but more of concern is what Im feeling in my back. First, I had this dull ache in my lower back that wouldnt go away, and from time to time, I got this light to moderate squeezing or pressure sensation on either side of my spine. However, I did do some seated swiveling on an exercise ball for about 10 minutes last night, which is supposed to feel great on a pregnant womans back, and I wonder if I just overdid it a little. I wish I hadnt done that now, because Ive read so many things that say persistent low back ache is a sign of labor. But I didnt want to rush to the hospital if this is just sore muscles, so now Im waiting for some other sign. Fortunately, it tapered off around 8 tonight, but I really am thinking it was at least prelabor. It was just a different pain from a sore muscle pain. Energy Level: I was absolutely exhausted today. I slept pretty poorly Sunday night and only moderately well last night, so it may have just been natural fatigue. But Im not usually that tired in the middle of the day (so long as Im not reading a really poorly written and dull history book that is!), so I dont know if I should be concerned. |

| Discharge: I lost another tiny piece of mucus plug, but thats it. Aches and Pains: My crotch was very sore today, too. It felt swollen and like somebody kicked me. |

| Fetal Movement: Well, after I said she was quiet yesterday, she picked up at bedtime with some nasty kicks near my belly button. Then today, she has been semi-quiet except for this one period during early evening where she was just killing me. It was all squirming, no kicking, but she had something wedged up under my right rib and she kept pushing on the same spot a little below and to the left of my belly button. Ow! Aches and Pains: Generalized mild achiness today. And suddenly my belly aches something fierce, especially when I stand up. It's as if suddenly my belly has outgrown my body. It feels like I can no longer support it and it might just fall off. I have no idea what, if anything, that means. Contractions: Well, the morning was very quiet, but around 3, suddenly I started having them again. For most of the afternoon they came 2-3 times per hour, and then a little before 5 I ended up having a spurt where they were coming every 5 to 10 minutes. That spell ended by 6, but I had another episode of closer contractions for awhile around 7:30. What intrigues me about this round in particular is that they were really starting to get more uncomfortable. Instead of just painless tightening, it was getting moderately difficult to breathe and if I moved, my sides in particular really hurt. Again, they tapered off after less than an hour, but the fact that they I am having some more frequent and/or more intense bouts of BH leads me to believe that my body is really gearing up. I have an appointment at two tomorrow that will tell me if I've dilated any more or not. |

| Discharge: I did not appear to lose any of my mucus plug today (maybe because it's finally all gone???) and I was in fact fairly dry for most of the day, although I did have one trip to the bathroom where there was LOTS of the normal white discharge. | ||||||||||||||

| Fetal Movement: Just a normalish day today. Not a whole lot of frenzied activity or anything. She got the hiccups at bedtime of course. How does she know it's bed time??? Aches and Pains: Continued pain in the pelvis and cervix. And especially once night rolled around, my whole body ached severely. Being in bed was torture. Contractions: Again, I had a fairly quiet morning and even afternoon, but in the early evening, I actually had a brief episode where they were REALLY close, from 2 to 5 minutes apart. Unfortunately, it only lasted about 20 minutes. As the night progressed I started feeling more menstrual like cramps, which is a good thing, as those are more likely to be "real" contractions than the kind that tighten my belly. Still, I didn't have very many of them, and they have not developed into anything regular. |

| Discharge: I was pretty dry for most of the morning, but after my internal exam, I started losing a lot more mucus plug again, including some that was fairly bloody. But just as with last week, the blood is most likely just from the internal, not actual bloody show. | ||||||||||||||
