Illegal Toronto Transit Strike
May 29, 2006, Ontario, Canada
Early morning picket lines by transit maintenance workers who were angry about being switched to overnight shifts were quickly joined by drivers harbouring safety concerns about confrontations with irate customers, resulting in a complete shutdown of Toronto's massive transit system. In the afternoon, the union instructed its workers to end the strike. Police were deployed just after 6:00pm to the Wilson subway station because workers refused to take down their picket line, according to the Toronto Star, which also reported that Yonge-University line trains didn't resume operation and leave the Wilson yards until 8:30pm.
