Stephen Chow's Thunder Cops 2 (1989) A piece of shit...
Comment on this movie on HK Neo Reviews Forum NEW!
While Stephen Chow movies have always been watchable no matter when it was made, in the 80s and 90s. However, the same can not be said of Thunder Cops 2, directed by Jeff Lau who is later responsible for Chow's superstar breakthrough role in All for the Winner, is absolutely at his worst. While the film is dark and in fact very dark and bleak, it is totally unnecessary as innocent people are killed without any impact or importance whatsoever. Although one must review this movie as a 80s movie "with" Stephen Chow, rather than a Stephen Chow movie, even by that standard this is just utter crap. However, it must be noted that Chow's role here is at best supporting and at worst an extended cameo appearance, but in my honest opinion, there is one good thing about this movie, and that's Stephen Chow. It is only when he is on screen that this movie is actually somewhat watchable. While Sandra Kwan is a good actress, her performance here is unconvincing, but it is interesting to see how she matures as an actress now than she was in her uncontrolled acting here. The movie is dark and the comical touches a few and rare and are mostly provided by Chow's persona, although the ending seems to be redeeming somewhat, the movie is still just crap as the ending seems very odd and out of place. Nevertheless, the real crap-ness is not the movie as a whole, but rather the overuse of Jeff Lau's slow motion which made the movie all the most unwatchable. If there is one scene worth saying about is probably the fight scenes in the first half, where Ann Bridgewater displays some much needed stunts and fights, however, after that and Stephen Chow the film just go downhill and eventually more than just crap, but ultimately unwatchable. So two words: it's crap! And yes, it is worst than Faithfully Yours...
