Baade, Brunolf

Brunolf Baade was born in March 1904 in Berlin. In 1922 he started his aviation studies at TU Berlin, later at Munich, where he finished his studies in 1926. Brunolf Baade was busy as the chief engineer of Acron Airships in the USA since 1930 for ten years, before he returned to Germany in 1939, where he joined IFM Brunolf Baade was the responsible project manager of the Junkers Ju 88 and Junkers Ju 288 since May 1939. His final Junkers activities were focused on the Junkers Ju 287 development. When the Russians occupied Dessau, Brunolf Baade was one of the leading managers there. Under his leadership the Ju287 was finished. Together with other Junkers employees Baade went later to Moskow, where they were engaged in Russian bomber designs. In the fifties Baade returned to the German Democratic Republic, where he became manager at the Flugzeugwerke at Dresden. Under his management the German Democratic Republic started the development of a passenger jet airliner under the designation Baade 152, of which two finally became airborne. Under Soviet pressure this last Baade development was finally stopped. Since 1961 Baade was a professor at the University of Dresden until his death in 1969.

Bauer, Karl

Karl Bauer performed his studies at TU Munich and Berlin between 1904 and 1910. In 1909 he joint Siemens-Schuckert's Mining Division in Berlin. In 1912 Bauer moved to the Draeger Facilities in Lubeck and became the responsible production manager there. In 1915 Bauer took over the position of the operational manager of the IDFLIEG test facilities at Adlershof and later changed to Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft, where he was responsible for the setup of a new aircraft production line. In Februar 1918 Bauer joint Junkers Flugzeugwerke and became member of the board of directors of the JFAG. In September 1918 Karl Bauer died.

 

 

Becker, Emil

Emil Becker was a mechanic at a small company at Landsberg before he joint ICO in December 1915. Im May 1919 he was the responsible operational director of JFAG and in 1921 Becker became technical member of the board of directors of JFAG, which he holded until November 1931, when he left the board by his own request following disputes with Hugo Junkers. In September 1932 Becker left Junkers Flugzeugwerke and founded his own engineering office at Munich.

 

 

Bennhold, Walter

Walter Bennhold was the brother of Hugo Junkers' wife. In joint Hugo Junkers studies at Aachen and became the head of the Construction Office for Warm Water Stoves at Aachen in November 1899.

Alexander von Bentheim joint Junkers Luftverkehr in July 1924. When Junkers Luftverkehr merged with Deutsche Aero Lloyd in 1926, Bentheim remained at Junkers Flugzeugwerke with the Air Traffic Department. In 1929 Bentheim was responsible for the sales tour of the Junkers G38 and in 1931 he became the responsible manager of the Air Traffic Department of Junkers Flugzeugwerke. Bentheim left Junkers in June 1932.

von Bentheim, Constantin

Constantin von Bentheim served in the Prussian Army and Navy until 1911. From 1911 to 1914 he joint the Turkish Army, but returned to Germany with the breakout of WWI. From 1916 to 1918 he was pilot at the German Westfront. Following WWI von Bentheim studied at the Economical Highschool in Berlin.

In 1922 he joint Junkers and worked on the setup of Lloyd Ostflug GmbH in Danzig. He was also engaged in the
Fili Joint Venture in Russia. In 1924 Constantin von Bentheim was sent to the Balkan, where he mostly was engaged in the Tomtas facility at Kaisserie and in the discussions with the Turkish Government regarding a possible airline operation in Turkey. With the closing of Junkers Luftverkehrs GmbH, von Bentheim moved to Deutsche Luft Hansa in 1926.

At Lufthansa von Bentheim continued to use his experiences and connections in Russia and Turkey for the setup of new flight routes, i.e. the Transeurasian routes through Russia. In 1936 von Bentheim was arrested by Gestapo and was sent to court and later into prison and the KZ from 1937 to 1945. After WWII von Bentheim took over management positions at Siemens-Palnia in Berlin and Mineraloelwerke Wintershall in Halle. In 1950 von Bentheim left the Soviet Occupation Zone and in 1954 he retired in Hamburg.

Bergmann, Armin

Armin Bergmann was the head of the Chemical Department of Junkers Flugzeugwerke. In sofar he was also responsible for analysis of material structures. After WWII he moved to Meinerzhagen, where he joint Otto Fuchs Werkstoffprüfungen. In 1949 Bergmann joint Gebr. Rautenbach Laboratories in Solingen, where he worked until his death in 1969.

Berner, Kurt

Kurt Berner joint Junkers Luftverkehr Sales Department in 1923. In May 1925 he moved Buenos Aires and headed the Esa Sales Department until December 1926. Back to Germany, Berner supported the Foreign Sales Department of Junkers Flugzeugwerke until Dec. 1927, when he left Junkers.

Albert von Bezold joint the German Army in 1883 and achieved the Officers Engineering examination in 1895 with the specialization in the field of telegraphy. Bezold left the Army in 1921 and moved to Junkers Flugzeugwerke, where he was responsible for the setup of the Library Department until June 1926, when he left Junkers Flugzeugwerke.

Bitterich, Hermann

Hermann Bitterich joint Junkers Flugzeugwerke in March 1920. He was engaged in the South America Tour of Junkers and in aircraft sales to Cuba during 1923. Since Dec. 1928 Bitterich worked in the engineering department of Junkers Flugzeugwerke.

Blankenstein, Walter

Since 1920 Walter Blankenstein was engaged for Luftfriko and for Lloyd Ostflug, where he took over the discussion position for Junkers Luftverkehr with the Allied Commission. In January 1921 Blankenstein joint Lloyd Ostflug and became assistant director of this airline. In May 1922 Blankenstein swapped over to Lloyd-Junkers-Luftverkehr GmbH of which he became the responsible director.

 

 

Blunck, Richard

Richard Blunck performed his social, historical and literature studies at the universities of Kiel, Leipzig and Munich since 1913. After WWI Blunck took over several managing positions in newspapers and at museums. In 1927 Blunck joint Junkers, probably to support Junkers' ideas of the "Bauhaus" area. Blunck kept contact to Junkers at Schliersee after Junkers was arrested there and continued studies of metal house constructions with Hugo Junkers. In 1935 Blunck wrote a Junkers biography on request of Therese Junkers.

 

 

Bock, Guenther

Gunther Bock started his studies at TU Berlin after the end of WWI. In May 1923 Bock joint Junkers Flugzeugwerke and became member of Hugo Junkers private secretary at the Hauptburo. In October 1924 he changed to the Forschungsanstalt and researched structural questions of aircraft designs there. In January 1926 Bock joint the Flugzeugwerke and in 1930 he became manager of the static research office. He was responsible for the structural and strengthening question of the Junkers G23/24 passenger airliner.

In September 1931 Bock took over the position of a professor at the University of Danzig. Since 1933 he was the chief engineer of the Reichsluftfahrt Ministry and in 1936 he became director of the Flugwerk at Adlershof. From 1941 to the end of WWII Bock was the scientific manager of the DVL. From 1946 to 1954 he worked for the Soviets at Ramenskoje nr. Moscow under Brunolf Baade. In 1954 he returned to West Germany and became professor at the University of Darmstadt. In 1958 he was appointed as Rektor of the University of Darmstadt and in 1959 he became director of the German Aeronautical Association. In 1965 he took over the managing position of the DVL at Oberpfaffenhofen.

 

 

Boehler, Friedrich

Friedrich Boehler joint Junkers in 1925. In 1926 he was sent to Kaisserie in Turkey as a mechanic for the setup of Tomtas. From Turkey Boehler went to China and supported the setup of a maintenance station at Nanking for Eurasia. In 1940 he returned to Germany and became a certificate engineer at Junkers Motorenwerke. Before the end of WWII, Boehler returned to China again as a consultant for the National Chinese Army of Chiang-Kai-Chek. In 1946 Boehler returned to Germany and left Junkers officially.

Dr. Boehm, Alois Robert

Alois Boehm joint Junkers in May 1927. He was engaged in several fields of Junkers Flugzeugwerke, mostly in the area of foreign affairs and license agreements. He established the Main Office Department of Junkers Flugzeugwerke and in 1930 he became responsible manager of the foreign affairs and public relation office of Junkers Flugzeugwerke. In 1932 he left Junkers and continued as a private engineer in Paris.

Boehme, Adolf

Adolf Boehme was the technical and financial manager of the TOMTASCH facilities in Turkey since 1925. When Tomtasch was dissolved in 1928 he changed to Persia and became Junkers pilot of the Persian government. In 1930 Boehme returned to Germany.

Dr. Willy Bohne became member of the IFA supervisory board on 24th November 1933, after Hugo Junkers was forced to leave his company. Bohne was already vice president of the commerce board of Halberstadt at this time. Bohne left the supervisory board on 15.07.1936.

 

 

Bongers, Hans Martin

Hans Bongers joint Junkers as a financial employee in October 1918. From 1921 to 1923 Bongers studied at the University of Munich economic and financial research areas. Since March 1923 Bongers is engaged at the initialization of Junkers Luftverkehr AG. Together with Kurt Weil, Bongers analysed the cost structure of an airline operation. When Junkers Luftverkehr was absorbed by Luft Hansa in 1926, Bongers changed to the newly formed Luft Hansa.

In 1929 he was responsible for the reorganisation of the Luft Hansa technical workshops. Later Bongers became member of the board of directors of Luft Hansa. After the end of WWII Bongers was engaged in the setup of a new German airline and in 1951 he founded the "Buro Bongers" at Bonn as a consultant office for the German government regarding the setup of such an airline. From this "Buro Bongers" finally Lufthansa post war airline was created in 1955. Bongers became the first chairman of the board of directors of Lufthansa in 1955 until 1965, when he left Lufthansa.

Brandenburg, Fritz

Fritz Brandenburg studied between 1902 and 1908 at the Technical Universites of Darmstadt and Braunschweig. In 1910 he became a secretary assistant of Prof. Kochy at the University of Aachen. He was responsible for railway constructions and mass transport questions. In 1912 Brandenburg joint the Junkers research labs at Aachen. At the end of WWI Brandenburg took over the financial managing position of the Junkers research labs. Later he was also responsible for financials of the Junkers Motorenwerke GmbH. Since 1933 Brandenburg was employed at the Junkers Headoffice at Munich. Fritz Brandenburg was also design engineer at Junkers & Co. during WW I. He was engaged in the developement of the J.4 On 13.09.1919 he was onboard F13 Annelise, when this aircraft achieved a altitude world record

 

 

Brandner, Ferdinand

Ferdinand Brandner studied at Vienna University. In April 1937 he joint Junkers Flugzeug- und Motorenwerke and became the responsible managing engineer for the Jumo 222 developement. In 1945 he was sent to Russia and continued aircraft engine developement for the Soviets. At the Experimental Factory No. 2 in Kuibyschew Brandner headed the OKB-2 developement department and designed a 12000 hpr aircraft engine here. In 1954 he returned to Austria.

During the early 60s Brandner supported the E-300 engine development in Egypt for Messerschmitt's Ha-300, before he became a technical director at BMW in Munich.

Dr. von Brauchitsch, Eberhard

From 1927 to 1931 Eberhard von Brauchitsch was operational manager of the Henschel Werke. In 1931 he joint Borsig Werke and became chairman of the Engine Facility Sehmer. In 1935 he was the Technical Director of the Magdeburg Facilities of Junkers and in July 1936 he became member of the board of directors of Jumo until his death in 1937.

 

 

Brauer, Otto

Since 1909 Otto Brauer was engaged in model aircraft designs and after finishing his school he joint Albatros Flugzeugwerke at Berlin in August 1914. Shortly after the breakout of WWI he joint the Fliegertruppe, where he mostly was engaged at the bomber squadrons, i.e. 9 Bogohl 6 (144). In 1921 he joint the Deutsche Luftreederei as a pilot and in November 1922 he changed to Junkers Luftverkehr. In 1926 he was absorbed by Luft Hansa, when Junkers Luftverkehr was taken over. In December 1929 he was called into the RLM supervisory board at Junkers Flugzeugwerke for the Junkers G38 developement and test programme. In October 1930 he became the G38 chief pilot at Lufthansa. With the breakout of WWII Brauer was taken over by the German Luftwaffe. In November 1941 he became developement and test manager of the RLM at Junkers Flugzeugwerke.

In August 1945 he was arrested by the Soviets and in April 1947 he was sent to Russia as a prisoneer of war for one year. After WWII Brauer took over several representative positions in German Aviation Organisations, i.e. in 1955 he became the chairman of the German Pilot Association. In 1958 Brauer became member of the Commercial Air Transport Institute at the TU Berlin until 1964.

 

 

Brausewaldt, Horst

Horst Brausewaldt was a financial employee at Arado Flugzeugwerke since 1925. Parallel he was responsible publisher of the Illustrated Flight Week since 1928. In 1934 Brausewaldt moved from Arado to Junkers and became responsible for Public Relations at Junkers. Several books were published by him, i.e. Menschen im Werk or Sturzkampfflugzeuge. Since 1958 Brausewaldt was PR Manager at Messerschmitt.

Dr. Bruhn, Richard

Richard Bruhn is mostly well-known as the founder of Auto-Union, which today is Audi. For a short period Bruhn worked also for Junkers Flugzeugwerke since April 1927, when he joint the Main Offce. Already in 1929 Bruhn left Junkers again. But in 1931 he became member of the supervisory board of the Junkers-Diesel-Kraftmaschinen GmbH on behalve of DKW (Deutsche Kraftwagen Werke). In 1932 Bruhn founded Auto-Union as part of DKW and after WWII he refounded Auto Union GmbH in Ingoldstadt in 1949.

Butter, Benno

Waldemar von Butlar was an early pre WWI pilot with a lot of experience. After WWI he became manager of the BMW office in Berlin. By that, he also became trustee of Junkers Flugzeugwerke during the Junkers bankruptcy in 1932.
