Jail11 (b-jail11.wad) Roland Sander June 22, 1994
This Wad starts you off outside a big square jail, which, like all jails, is surrounded by an ooze moat. Sadly, the main gate is locked by a yellow key,
which is not present in the map. Fortunately, I was in a sporting mood, so I gave myself some keys and trekked onward. Immediately after the gate, you find yourself in a courtyard ringed by rooms. After randomly clicking on nondescript walls you'll stumble across a vital passageway and maybe even finish the level. Like all prisons, this WAD features marble rooftops, ooze pits, fiery torture chambers, and, of course, no cells at all. One thing to its credit, however, is that level design is pretty non-standard, so fans of off-beat design might want to check it out, along with nostalgia hunters (it's mainly E1 textured). Action is okay. 2/5

Ballock.wad v1.51 (b-lock.wad)
Jeff Blank June 22, 1994
This is a short, pretty fun WAD. It's mainly E1 themed, and the action is pretty good. The main thing about this WAD is that is has a very fun old-school feel to it. (Though admittedly, the fact that the beginning area reminds of a WAD I played through in a dream many years ago probably helps.) Still, I think any E1-style, old-school lover, or nostalgia hunter will enjoy this WAD a lot.

Temple of Saturn (Baal2.wad)
Bob Delorme February 13, 1995
Note that this WAD has nothing to do with a temple. Random texturing and structure, action is alright. There are two parts which do look pretty nice: the red key room has a pretty classic look, and the room with the crook is kinda neat looking as well. Might be interesting to nostalgia hunters, but probably not to anyone else.

Baal 3_1 (baal3_1.wad)
Bob Delorme August 12, 1995
Starts off good, with a nice consistent stone theme in the beginning. Opens into a courtyard, which is also set up kinda nicely.  Unfortunately, it starts to deteriorate from there into random texturing and structure. Action is alright.

BadBlu
Kim Markworth May 31, 1994
This Wad was in the Maximium files. Its typical first level fare; large, bare rooms; textures and themes randomly changing from sector to sector; enemnies and powerups strewn randomly. Despite this it plays pretty well, and each indivical area doesnt look too bad. (It also looks kickass in jDoom, I might add.) Maximum vets and nostalgia hunters should appreciate this one. 3.5/5

Bad Dream
Rick Rooster Lowder July 10, 1994
Theres something unique about the way this level is designed. Maybe its the somewhat over-sized rooms, contrasted with the somewhat underpopulation of them. Maybe its the use of old-school cages and shelves. But no matter what, this Wad definitely has a Tom Hall (i.e. E1M4) feel to it. The action is pretty good, with ammo a little scarce. Overall, a fun, medium-sized romp. Nostalgia hunters and fans of offbeat design will definitely enjoy it. 3.5/5

Bad Mood Wad (badmood.wad)
Cristophe DEMANGE June 4, 1995
This is a basically a maze WAD. You run around many narrow corridors looking for the exit, but there's no false leads, so I guess it's not a "true" maze. It doesn't suck as much as such WADs usually do, though, as it's vaguely amusing. The new music is cool.

Back To Hell (Bak2Hell.wad)
David Seager June 6, 1996
Yet another multi-level WAD that starts and ends good, but drags in the middle. At least this time the drag isn't that bad. Let's start off with an overview: Level design in this level set is somewhat unique, definitely different from the standard fare. Action is usually good. Finally, there are *lots* of secrets, though some are sadly on the bullshit side. Onto the levels themselves. E3M1 and E3M2 are two very good cavernous Hell levels. E3M3 is pretty good; it's one of those open-ended base/town levels. Exterior is marble, interior is pretty random. The problem with this level is it's veeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrryyyyyyy cramped, which detracts from the overall fun factor. E3M4 is fair. It starts off cavernous, but becomes random in structure and theming; I think the general idea was base elements inside a cavern or somesuch. E3M5 is a base built inside a cavern that's having some "problems", pretty fun overall. E3M6 is a fair pseudo-city level with some really hard-to-crack secrets (I couldn't find the secret exit). E3M9 is a small house-ish level that's very fun and very well done. E3M7 is a very good level that starts off in some mines, then expands into a mansion. E3M8 is a nicely done cavernous arena. Overall, a pretty fun Hell set with some very good levels. Check it out.

Bakaroo1

This WAD consists of a low-ceiling hallway with powerup rooms branching off, a high-ceilinged room with a staircase in the center, a low-ceilinged star room, and a group of teleport-around-randomly rooms; ammo and weapons are placed haphazardly throughout. If this appeals to you, download away.

The Lair of Bamse Bear (bamse.wad)
Rune Anderson October 23, 1997
This is a short, fun level with some cool architecture. Design is a bit whimsical, and definitely different. Texturing is kinda random but still looks good. I have a feeling I'm missing out on the whole bear thing (there are pictures of cartoony animals plastered all over the place). Check it out; it won't take up much of your time.

Barfight
John Stern October 28, 1994
A strange, small, symmetrical level. Brown walls, wood skull doors (when theyre marked), UAC crates everywhere. About twenty imps in total. Odd. Not good. 2/5

Baron Barbeque (Baron.wad)
Kevin Aagaard February 1, 1995
A smallish-medium level. Random texturing and structure, and structure is somewhat sprawling. Gameplay is somewhat open-ended, which is nice, and action is good. It's kinda fun, but nothing special.

Barrel Version 2.0 (Barrel2.wad)
Cameron Newham April 30, 1994
Ah,
Barrel2, a truly legendary WAD. This is the mother of all puzzle WADs, and though it's just a bit easier with mouselook, it's still pretty tough. You really have to use your head here, as there's some seriously tricky stuff. It's also quite tough on the action level too, including a Blockmap (I think) error that screws up your weapons. Texturing is a bit random but not totally so, and design is nice and tricky. Seriously, play this WAD. 4/5

The Base of Evil (Bas_Evil.wad)
Ralf Wueltener April 15, 2004
This is a pretty fun E2 replacement made up of smallish-medium levels. Texturing is mainly marble gothic, with one or two E2 style and one wood style map. Action is pretty good. Detail is at id standard. The new sky is a pretty neat recolored E3 sky, and there's a kinda nice metal texture as well. If you liked Doom, you'll probably like this.

BassAckward (BasAkWrd.wad)
John S. Gabe January 26, 1996
Heh, best miscellaneous author info ever. This WAD actually crashes ZDoom eventually. Use jDoom instead, because either glBSP, jDoom, or both make this WAD very interesting because of the weird way the author made it. The first part consists of a narrow maze. Normally this wouldn't be anything to get excited about, but as I mentioned before, for some structural oddity the enemies are able to see you through the walls, and attack you through them too, though you can't hit them. The result is crazy fast-paced and quite difficult action; the most fast-paced I've ever experienced actually. The second part doesn't have the crazy glitch, though the design in one of the rooms is pretty neat anyway. It's a short WAD altogether, and texturing was a bit random, if I recall correctly. Normally this WAD would be nothing special, but in jDoom it's crazy, fun blast. You gotta try it.
