--GrayDay July 1, 1994

This level has a big courtyard in the middle, with four rooms at the corners. "Duct" systems run along the courtyard. There's also a room off the courtyard with a bunch of doors, some of which are locked. Basically, you just run around 'til you find a certain switch, which lowers a teleporter, which lets you grab all the keys. The level sprawls and is actually pretty boring. Structure and texturing is random. There isn't enough ammo, and you can get yourself stuck in a few places. People who like off beat level designs might wanna check this out, but everyone else should probably just stay away. 3/5
--Jail July 8, 1994
A level that starts off in a jail but branches out into randomness, structurally and texturally. Gameplay is good.

Random structure and texturing. Ammo is tight for a while, so challenge seekers might enjoy it. 3/5

Texturing is somewhat random, structure is random, action is alright. Two penned up Cyberdemons are used to crank up the anxiety, which is a nice effect. (That or to sound like waterfalls or somesuch . . . I'm not sure which.) However, I couldn't find the blue key, so I gave up. 2/5
--MntDoom July 6, 1994
This is a short level, with basically random structure and texturing. Ammo is tight, so I'm sure challenge seekers will like this one. I had fun playing it.

Starts in a big ooze rooms with lots of enemies. Then you're supposed to go through an ooze canal. I couldn't find a rad suit, plus there were enemies in said canal, so I died every time. 2/5
--Nuclear July 3, 1994 (My pick for the winner!!!)
   This takes place in a base-type level . . . a nuclear base.
:) It goes through a few different texturing schemes depending on the room you're in. Gameplay is great, and somewhat non-linear. The level design is really good. You should definitely check this WAD out. Oh, and it's E1M2. 5/5
--Plant March 28, 1980 (!) :)
This is a short base level. It goes through three or four texturing themes, but the structure isn't too bad overall; I especially liked a high-ceiling highway present in one area. It's actually quite easy (E1 enemies only, and you get a plasma rifle with ammo about 1/3 through). I'm stuck between a 3/5 and a 3.5/5, but I think I'll go with a
3.5/5.

Essential doors are hidden, and even WITH allmap I got stuck in the second area. 1/5
--Robs January 10, 1993 (!) :)
A randomly structured, randomly textured medium sized level. Half of it sprawls incredibly, and reminds me vaguely of Wolf-3D. The beginning area kicked my ass, and I was low on health throughout. The sprawling level design and lack of health defiantly hurts the gameplay.

--Temple July 2, 1994
I think this in the style of a marble temple infested by a tech base, heh.
:) Structure is random, and there are several areas where the author uses base texturing. Action is good, and the level itself is pretty short. I found myself enjoying this WAD, so: 3.5/5
--Tone2 June 30, 1994
Bad design, random structure and texturing, bad action. Despite all this there are some areas that look quite neat, so check it for them, but otherwise:

--Wreck June 25, 1994
Random design, random texturing, and there are some teleporters, hidden and non-hidden, which simply take you to places on the map you've already been. On the plus side, the scale of its rooms is kinda big, which gives it a neat feel, and there is some neat, old-school style architecture which makes it kinda interesting. Nostalgia hunters should definitely enjoy this. Oh, and it's short.

Crossing Acheron (Acheron.wad) Dr. Sleep ([email protected]) July 7, 1994
A truly cool level, the first I ever played to have a consistent theme. It has a great gothic theme, with some neat architecture. Action is actually only fair, but still worth a look anyway.

Crossing Acheron 1.666 (Acheron6.wad) Dr. Sleep September 22, 1994
I believe this is the version of Crossing Acheron that was included in the Maximum files. (It was included in a multi-Wad pack though, so Acheron.wad never appeared in that compilation.) Its pretty much the same as the original version above, except theres a few minor areas tacked on, and theres some fast-open Doom 2 doors. Nothing major though, so I guess this could be considered the definitive version of the level. By the way, the first time I ever played it, this level was set to E3M7 (due to the wad pack). That gives it Waltz of the Demons for music, and the Hell sky from E3. This is definitively the best way to experience this level, as it adds tons of atmosphere to it.

Adam (Adamwad.wad) Adam Brill September 20, 1994
This is a medium-sized wad. Texturing is totally random. Level design is very basic; detail and architecture are nonexistent. Action is alright, somewhat tough. Some areas though do have a bit of a nice old-school feel. Nostalgia hunters only, and even then only maybe.

My First Adeventure (Adv1.wad) Phillip S. Pittz June 11, 1994
This is one of those throw the player into a huge haphazardly designed area and throw
tons of monsters at him" WADs. Utterly passable.

Project: Recovery (ae_projr.wad) Eric Sambach April 5, 1995
This level has an interior base section, along with an exterior section. Texturing theme is adhered to, except for the last part of the interior. Design is classic Doom style, though there's not much architecture, and the level is pretty small overall. There's a lot of secrets so be on the lookout for them. One architecture piece I did like was towards the end, where instead of the usual MIDGRATE texture, columns with space big enough to see through but with too little space to fit through were used. Action is pretty good, though there are perhaps too many shells. There's a pretty nice fight at the end.

Afro Tim Scott May 14, 1994
This is a pretty short, randomly textured and structured level that was present in the Master Files. There's a few architectural things that nostalgia hunters will probably get a kick out of, and another interesting thing is that the exit switch is right at the beginning. Action is okay. Maximum vets and nostalgia hunters only, methinks.
