3.1 What is Ultimate Doom?

Ultimate Doom is the latest available version of Doom I and comes with a fourth episode not available in earlier versions of the game. If you have an older version of Doom, then you should be able to upgrade it to Ultimate Doom free of charge. You can find a guide to upgrade patches below...

3.2 What is Final Doom?

Final Doom is a new release of Doom II. It has two new 32-level WADs, but NOT the original 32-level Doom II WAD. You CANNOT upgrade Doom II to Final Doom - you have to find Final Doom and buy it!

Final Doom is an official id Software product, but was actually created for them by the WAD Group TeamTNT. The two new episodes are titled "The Plutonia Experiment" and "Evilution"...

3.3 What is Doom '95?

Doom '95 is a new .exe and other files for either Doom or Doom II. It allows you to run Doom or Doom II natively under Windows '95, at a resolution of up to 640x480 (instead of the normal DOS version's 320x200). You can download it for free from id's ftp site.

To use Doom '95 you will need to copy your Doom or Doom II IWAD file into the Doom '95 folder. Once you've put the WAD from a registered copy of either game into the Doom '95 folder, your copy of Doom '95 will behave as registered and can load up external WADs...

3.4 What is Doom II - The Master Levels?

The Master Levels is an id released CD-Rom containing two sets of levels - I haven't actually got The Master Levels, but from what I've seen and heard of it it sounds a waste of money. The Maximum Doom levels are highly variable in quality, and many of them can be downloaded for free from your local ftp.cdrom.com mirror site. As for the Master Levels, you'd be better off checking out the levels in my Doom II Top Ten and on the Ultimate WAD Page.

If you still want the Master Levels, it's just been re-released as part of a multipack Doom. Otherwise you can buy it from id Software's "Shopping Maul"...

3.5 How do I get the latest version of Doom/Doom II?

The shareware version of Doom can be downloaded from id Software's site. If you have a Mac, you can also go there to download a MacDoom Demo.

Upgrade patches for Doom and Doom II can be downloaded off the internet for free. Use the table below to work out what upgrade patches you need, and click on the patch names to download them from id's ftp site... Just look for your version of Doom across the top of the table, and download all the patches in the column below it.
