Tip of the week 4.

Both "sure of" and "proud of" use the preposition "a" and "as" - variously written as "à" and "às" or "á" and "ás".

Tha mi cinnteach a ceartas an tagraidh.
I am sure of the justice of the claim.

Bha sinn cinnteach as an toradh.
We were sure of the result.

Nach tu a tha cinnteach asad fhèin!
Aren't you sure of yourself!

The words moiteil, mòr, pròiseil, uaibhreach and uasal all mean, among other things, "proud", and are also used with "a" "as".

Bha iad uile pròiseil asainn.
They were all proud of us.

Tha mi moiteil asad.
I am proud of you. etc.

The last word "uasal" is interesting in that it really means "noble".
So "Tha mi uasal asda" really means "I am noble from them"
i.e. "They make me feel noble" = "I am proud of them".
