THE HIGH COMMISSIOINER FOR MALTA ACT Dear Frank and All,
I am informed that the results for Maltese throughout Australia have been good and encouraging. I wish to express my own personal satisfaction for these results and support wholeheartedly those that made it happen including the students and teachers. We all know what great sacrifices are made ranging from the known to the unknown, and for this I am truly grateful. To one and all, I wish a peaceful Christmas and a new year full of health and happiness. We have a lot to be thankful for.
Francis Tabone High Commissioner

MALTESE SCHOOL OF WESTERN AUSTRALIA

Well done! I hope to have some students who will achieve such excellent results soon. We need to work very hard. I have some students who are very willing but I need much more information about the exam first. Have you got any audio material that your students listen to as a preparation for the exam? If I can get more details about the exam requirements, I'll start preparing some students .
Have a Blessed and peaceful Christmas and all the best for an excellent New Year.

I have received the newsletter and I thank you for that. This year we were blessed with exceeding the number of VCE students sitting for the exam. Let us hope that it will continue on in the future. I wish you and Josie a great Festive Season.

CHARLES GALEA NEW SOUTH WALES

Dear fellow teachers
I am giving you the information requested as per the letter you sent.
Name of school : The Hills Sports H. S., SSCL Seven Hills.
Address: Best Road, Seven Hills, 2147.
Email: [email protected]
Contact: Charles Galea
No of students: 15 Term 1: 17 Term IV :15 Adult students: 7
Teachers:1
HSC prospectives : 5 (2008), 5 (2009)
We expect to expand our activities in other areas of Sydney and the prospects look good. I wish all the members of the Federation a well-deserved rest and look forward to work together next year.
I read with great interest of the hard work all of you are doing through the emails Rhonda has sent me. It seems that I have been left out of this loop of emails. It is important to continue communicating and to focus on the tasks ahead and achieve all the outcomes we have set to achieve without sidetracking on other issues. I thought that I have already sent the exact number of students to Francis. As Rhonda said in 2008 NSW we have 5 students sitting for the HSC, in 2009 we will have 4 students and in 2010 there may be 1 only unless things change. In 2011 we have 2 students and in 2012 we will have 3 students sitting for the HSC. I am working with figures that I have now at this moment. Things may change. Students can drop off or lose their enthusiasm to study Maltese.
We are dealing with a very fragile mission that we can't afford to make one single mistake if we want to succeed. Rhonda and I were able to reach a landmark decision in that the SSCL would receive adult students in our school free of charge. This has been a first for the SSCL and the Maltese language in NSW. These adults now have the backing and orientation that they need to pursue Maltese studies. What an impact these adults have left on the other students? These will be the teachers that will disseminate in a concrete way the Maltese language in our community. The adult and distant students would not feel alienated but be part of the program, standards, assessments and professional guidance like other students in the SSCL. This has been in the making for the last 13 years and finally it has been achieved. The door of opportunity now has been opened for all Maltese who want to know their roots and deepen their love of Maltese culture and language. We hope that we will have more Maltese ready to come forward and become 'flames' that can spread the love of Maltese among our community

SKOLA MALTIJA WOLLONGONG

On behalf of Skola Maltija of Wollongong I would like to express an appreciation to all the delegates of the Federation, for their hard work towards the Maltese language and culture. This year 2008 was a turning point in achieving great goals together, the establishment of this Federation and the many new schools around Australia. Together we saved the Maltese HSC from being suspended. The initiative is that we must all set an example to them to learn our unique Maltese language. As the saying goes, "It is not what we say that counts, it is what we do. Our young must come first - they are the future, without future there is no hope. At least now we have achieved what every one has dreamt of, unity and the will to promote our Maltese language and culture. I would be happy to see that our newsletter would be written in Maltese, as well in the English language. We the first generation Maltese have an obligation to pass our heritage and culture to our children, include our Maltese language. At the end, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many people who has supported us, during these past two years since we have held the first conference that brought us together in solidarity.
