YEAR 12 MALTESE AXED

While some are still wasting their energy and time squabbling about the name of the Federation and delaying its establishment, I have been officially notified by Australian education authorities that the Maltese language is being axed from VCE in 2012.  Last MALTESE VCE for year 12 will be 2011.  How can we let this happen to our language?  Once the Maltese language is deleted from the list of languages offered in government, ethnic and independent schools it would need a miracle to be re-introduced.  So Sahha ja Malti.. Let's get together and fight for our dear language or it will be lost forever in Australia
Frank, I suppose the reason for the axing is lack of numbers. You have certainly done wonders over here to increase the size of the school and hopefully the numbers of people sitting for the VCE. What have the other states done? Can we complain on the strongest terms? We ought to tell the authorities about the huge swelling in numbers of the SA school and that we shall endeavour to replicate this interstate.
Regards
John Farrugia President Maltese Community Council of SA Inc

Dear Frank, It is only time, before we loose it all. Sometimes it make's me wonder if it is worthwhile pushing on. As you said there is too much arguing about a name and not really trying to unite. ACT

What is happening with the conference?

I am in agreement Frank- this is exactly what we MUST avoid!NZ

THE FINAL DRAFT OF THE FEDERATION CONSITITUTION

Since my last draft of the constitution there were very minimal changes.I know that 99% of the delegates sent their acceptance of the written constitution after extensive and comprehensive consultation with all parties concerned. As you can deduct from the above announcement we have more important issues to deal with.We still have not an authoritative entity to speak and act on behalf of our schools. This new federation should have been established in 1996 when I drafted the first proposal. We have missed out on many opportunities and we are still perceiovedas a disorganised organisation. The National conference was held in October 2007 (eight months ago) and we are back to square one. I have received a large number of emails from administrators, supporters of Maltese language, principals, teachers of Maltese schools and delegates of conference enthusiastically and anxiously expecting us to finalise the establishment of the federation as we promised.

ARCHIVES OF THE CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS OCTOBER 2008&HISTORY OF THE FEDERATION

As stated in the May 2008 Update I am working on a useful project in collecting and collating all the documents regarding the establishment of the federation. As you understand this task requires time, effort and some expenses in order to print and publish a booklet.I believe that it is very important for the present and future generations of Maltese/Australians to record these historical facts. I would like to hear your comments and suggestions about this matter is it a worthwhile project, should we pursue it or we shelf it for a later date or forget it completely?Presently, our website is serving this purpose.Visit this website often as it is updated constantly. You are always welcome to send personal contributions or input from your school.Everyone is interested to know what is happening in your State/Territory/School/Class.It is your website!!! www.geocities.com/frans311/7.html
