Eurospec 'All Motor' Project 9/02
On This page i will document, and explain the rebuilt of an original F54 L28 engine, en N42 Head combo
By modifying the engine i'm gaining at around 250 rwhp, all motor, maybe with the use of a "NOS" system
when the cylinderhead is removed you can see the pistons used, in this engine they used the dished type pistons, witch i'm not planning on using cause i want to raise the compression a little. These style pistons work great in a turbo set up according to the book '"how to modify you're datsun OHC engine"
A F54 engine came with several piston styles,  F54 / P79 head combo's came with flat top pistons, all others like a n42 ,n47,p90 ,p90A  have dished style pistons. (Cation heads could have been changed over the years do to reparations orso )
The F54-N42 combo i have, has a Compression Ratio of 8.3, i'm planning on using flattop pistons raising the compression to 10.4 click
here for a site with tons of info regarding this subject.
First you have to remove the head, do  it in a crossed style manner, to avoid head warping
The teardown
Here we have a prime example of a N42 that could use a rebuilt bad, notice how  the third combution chamber from the left has some badly burned valves, probably due to wrong adjustment.
Also the valve stems are badly worn, diffrent from his US brother, the eurospecs have hard valve seats not the brass type US N42 heads carry
The head actually is the only 'weak' part on these engines.
The pistons.
Be carefull that when you want to re-use the same pistons and only change the pistonsrings, write a number (1 to 6) on the domes, with an arrow pointing forward, this also goes for the mian barings.
When you are not very experianced  use A haynes manual or another manaul to take the engine apart!
do not force things they should come off/out rather easy, as a crankshaft is easy to bent

In my case the underblock is in great shape and does not really need a rebuilt.
Well this as far as i have come the first Saturday, i will update all the improvement or progress i will make.

Also i have a 'new' intake on the way, made by Pallnet! Thanks, he sells and makes the High Pressure feul rails as seen on this pic. Intrested mail the
webmaster.
This intake will carry a 65mm TB
Also i will be mounting a 6-2 Header from MSA.
Off course i will port the intakes
