Special Notes:
- The Queen of Prince Rupert was the flagship of BC Ferries when she was built. She is a ferry/cruise ship with basic overnight accomidation in cabins.
- The Queen of Prince Rupert was the first ship to regularly sail the Inside Passage for BC Ferries. She was replaced by the Queen of the North in 1980.
- Although the Queen of the North operates on the Inside Passage during the high-season, the Queen of Prince Rupert still runs the route during the low season. She also operates between Prince Rupert and Skidegate (Queen Charlotte Islands).
- The trip on the Queen of Prince Rupert between Prince Rupert and Skidegate goes across Hectate Strait which can be very stormy in the winter. This route crosses the most "open water" of any others BC Ferries operates on. The trip usually takes between 6 1/2 - 8 hours but can take much longer in stormy weather.
Year | Event |
1966 | Launched. The launch occurred prematurely, probably due to a boy (accidentally?) pushing the launch button. |
1967 | August 11 - The Queen of Prince Rupert became stranded on Haddington Reef, close to Alert Bay on Cormorant Island just off of Vancouver Island. |
1980 | The BC Government pulled the Princess Marguerite off the Victoria - Seattle run and replaced her with the Queen of Prince Rupert (herself replaced by the refurbished Queen of the North on the northern routes). For this job she was renamed the Victoria Princess. |
1981 | The Victoria Princess joined the BC Ferries fleet again and was given back her rightful name (Queen of Prince Rupert) and place (the northern routes). |
1982 | August 25 - The Queen of Prince Rupert was grounded on a reef in Gunboat Passage near Prince Rupert. |
1994 | October 4 - The Queen of Prince Rupert and the Queen of the North were pulled from service because of a tsunami warning along the coast after a large earthquake in Japan |
2000 | September 16 - The crew from the Queen of Prince Rupert rescued 3 teenagers Dodge Island, near Prince Rupert. |
