WELCOME!
Welcome to the Franchise Fantasy game, where you start with your favorite team and get to be the GM to build the team of your dreams.  This 20 team league will run through yahoo during the season as a standard 5x5 roto league.
Rules
Draft
A 5 round draft will be held for all players that belong to the 10 unowned teams
Draft order will be determined by team payrolls, with the lowest payroll picking first.
Draft picks can be traded for players or other picks.
To draft a player, email your selection to [email protected]
The draft will be updated on the draft page as teams make their selection
Teams will have a period of 2 days to make their selection.
Failure to make a selection within the 2 day period will cause a team to move 1 spot down for that round.  For example, picks 9 and 10 would switch places.
Once the rosters are set and Yahoo Fantasy Baseball is available, players will placed onto their respective teams via an offline draft.
Settings
25 Man Roster that must be set once we enter Yahoo Fantasy Baseball.
There will be 20 starters and 5 bench players.
9 hitters: one at each position and a DH.  11 Pitchers: 5 SP's, 3 RP's, and 3 P's.
There will be a maximum of 165 games at each position and an innings maximum of 1500.
The league will be standard 5x5 rotisserie with the following categories:  HRs, Runs, RBIs, Batting Avg, Steals, Wins, Strikeouts, ERA, WHIP, and Saves.
A player is eligible to play any position that yahoo allows them to.
Salary
Each team will have 40mil added to their payroll to pay for drafted players and free agents.
Each teams' roster must be within their salary cap.
Any player making less than $1 mil can be sent to the minor leagues without it counting against the cap.
Any player picked up as a free agent during the season must stay on the big league roster, regardless of salary.
If a team drops a player, they must eat his salary.
Any unlisted minor leaguer that is brought up to the major league roster can be used at a price of $300,000.
Once all 20 teams are in place, all current contracts will remain the same regardless of real life changes. (EXCEPT for players with less than 5 years experience -- see EXTENSIONS.)
Player salaries will not fluctuate DURING a contract.
Trades
All trades will have a 3 day pending period during which time teams can protest.
Five votes against a pending trade vetoes it.
To vote against a trade send an email to [email protected] with a brief reason why.
Once the League is on the Yahoo page, we will use the Yahoo tools for trades and protests.
Teams can trade major league players, listed minor league players, draft picks, and cash.
All trades will be posted on the trades page.
Free Agents
A list will be posted of all the remaining free agents.
The current best offer will be put next to the free agent's name.
After the top offer has not been beaten for 2 days, it becomes an official contract.
For a team to outbid the current offer, they must must do so by a minimum of $500,000.
Extensions
For players with 5+ years major league service:  Teams can extend their contracts at a price of 120% of their current salary.
For players with less than 5 years experience:  When they reach the 5 year mark and become an unrestricted free agent for the first time in their career, (Barry Zito is an example from this past offseason) their current team has the right to resign them at the real life contract they receive.  Otherwise the player will become a free agent.
Performance Consequences
Teams salary caps will flucuate from year to year, depending upon their performance in relation to their initial salary rank.  For every spot a team finishes that is higher than their initial payroll ranking, they will gain $3 million.  For every spot a team finishes that is lower than their initial team payroll ranking, they will lose $3 million.
For example:  The Florida Marlins rank 20th with a $14 million + payroll.  So if they were to finish 12th, which is 8 spots better, they would be rewarded with $24 million (3x8) for a total of $38 milllion (14 + 24) for next season's team salary.
