Fake Finn rocked the Tavastia on 30th of December, opening up for legendary Michael Monroe. We'll put up some pictures when they are developed.

Steven has been talking with the talented Tino Singh about recording some new demos and reworking some of the songs. Steven is now working with some other songwriters, arrangers, and producers to see if he can create something exciting for you. Stay tuned!

Just attended the amazing Sami Saari gig...just him and his keyboardist. Whoa. What a groove! Steve talked with Sami about a possible collaboration in the future. Until then, keep your eyes open for Sami's new record. His last, DO RE MI, was fantastic.

Steven got the chance to attend the recording of Maarit & Sami Hurmertinta's new UNPLUGGED GREATEST HITS album. Maarit & Sami have been big influences on Steven's songwriting and it was fun to hang out and chat with them. The album is definately something to look forward to!

After a relaxing summer break, Fake Finn is back in action. We are now starting to book our Fall gig dates. Look at our GIG page for information on where we are playing and how to book the band in clubs or private shows.

On his recent trip to the United States, Steven got to meet and chat with popular Christian pop rock recording artist Steven Curtis Chapman in Knoxville, TN. SCC put on a fantastic show and was excited about his new songs on both the soundtracks for "The Apostle" and the upcoming "Prince of Egypt" concept album.

Lead singer/songwriter Steven Stewart has cowritten three songs for new Finnish EMI recording artist MARIA ELENA for her album produced by the amazing Esa Kartamo. Look for the songs SYDN, MIT M TEEN?, and MUN ENKELI OOT on her new album available this Fall! With a strong and expressive voice in the style of Celine Dion and Whitney Houston, Maria is an artist to watch!

HANOI ROCKS has influenced musicians all over the world. Michael Monroe is still rocking just as great as before. We were lucky enough to be asked to open for Michael at a special RYH ROCK festival in Finland on 27 June. Wow!

The downpour of rain didn't keep thousands of Nokia workers from rocking at the Nokia Kesjuhla on the 17th of June. Fake Finn played a 25 minute set which included: Worth the Pain, Working Her Mojo, Only My Soul, Down On My Knees, Let's Make Your Boyfriend Jealous, and Marilyn's Ghost.
Marco Bjurstrm was as friendly and nice in person as he appears to be on his TV show. He even danced along with the music for the first couple of songs. Great guy, and we appreciated his support.

The Review in SOUNDI 7/98 is out. I'll print it in Finnish and English.
'FAKE FINN: Hauskasti huomaa, ettei bndin nokkamies ole suomalainen, sen verran kaukana yhtye seilaa suomalaisesta rockperinteest. Kavereiden musiikissa on kaikuja niin folk-rockista kuin alternative popista ja mausteita muualtakin. Svellykeset hyvi, pari jopa erinomaistakin on mukana. Tyylillinen kirjo tosin on hiukan liian laaja. Sovitukset erittin harkittuja ja vhn soittamista osataan todella kytt tyylikeinona. Soittopuoli hallussa. Paras biisi oli LOVE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE. Osittainen tarttuvuuden puute ja tyylillinen hajanaisuus tiputtavat tmn 'vain' demosedn merkin tuntumaan.'

Now in English...
'Fake Finn rules. They are better than ABBA.
Every record company in the world should be begging this band to sign with them.'
OK. I lied. Here's a translation that is a little closer to the truth:
FAKE FINN: When you listen this demo, it's not a surprise that band's leading man isn't a Finn, because this music is far from typical Finnish rock. These guys' music has echos from folk rock, alternative pop, and is spiced with other influences as well. The songs are good, and a few are great... though the variety of styles may be a little too diverse. The arrangements are deliberate and band uses the 'less is more' attitude in their playing (i.e. everybody doesn't have to play "loud" all the time) as a great stylistic device The band all play well. The best song was LOVE DOESN'T LIVE HERE ANYMORE. A little lack of really catchy hooks and the wide variety of music styles played are the 'only' things that prevent this demo from getting the Demoset marks.' Jukka Junttila, Soundi Lehti 7/98
Thanks for the positive review, Jukka! Your bribe is in the mail.

MP3 files of our four new demo songs can be found at our MUSIC link (The button is found at the bottom of the page). The files will take a while to download, but they do contain the full songs at close to CD quality. We hope you enjoy the new stuff!

Fake Finn will be performing at the Nokia kesjuhla on the 17th of June. We will be opening for four old favorite Finnish rock stars. Special guests Kirka, Hector, Pave Maijanen and Pepe Willberg with Marco Bjurstrm as the master of ceremonies.

Our new four song demo is complete! The amazing Kari Lahti did our recording and mixing for the four songs. We are really happy with how Kari was able to capture our live energy and sound for the demo. We highly recommend him to any bands looking for a fantastic engineer.

Fake Finn seems to be on a winning streak.
GEOCITIES awarded "Walking with the Spirits" the best rock song in Geocities.
Thanks to those who voted for us!

About the logo: What is up with the fish? "Finn" sounds like "fin" (ev). Our logo (of a tiny herring with a shark fin strapped on it's back) represents our little Finnish band in a big international pond. We've figuratively strapped on a fake shark fin by writing and playing songs that we feel are good enough to compete with bands on the radio...to be a 'great white shark' in the trecherous waters of rock stardom. Hopefully, we will scare up some success.

Come back and visit often.
We are always updating with new photos, lyrics, & gig dates.
Thanks for stopping by!
