Pilgrin's Cross

On your way down the Main Road side by side to the windmill we find a small garden where and old monument is located. This monument consists of a cross on a pedestal made from stone. This cross was built in July 1776 to replace another cross, which was made from wood. It is about four-meters tall and cost 82 Skud (Skud is a type of money used in medieval times). The stones were cut from Imqabba and were brought to Mellieha by sea. The function of this cross is to indicate to the pilgrims that the Sanctuary of our Lady of Mellieha is about to be found.
