HM's in the Fleet Marine Force

The Fleet Marine Force (FMF) is one of the many areas that today's Hospital Corpsman must operate. Stories of Heroism flow from this branch of our multi-fauceted field. The FMF was established on December 7th, 1933. Since the inseption of the Marine Corps, the HM, or Doc, has been there.

As a Hospital Corpsman, you will have the responsibility of being the only medical care that a Marine gets in some cases. The role of the HM while stationed with the FMF is more expanded than that of a corpsman on "shore-duty" (stationed at a Naval Hospital, or over-seas clinic). The Marines that you are assigned to will see you as a direct reflection of the Navy, and in turn will base their opinions of our service upon your demeanor, and appearance.

Where ever there is a Marine, a Corpsman is there.

The FMF Corpsman, also referred to as "Green Side Corpsman", must have a great deal of confidence in his/her abilities. The warfare device below is earned by qualified naval personel stationed with Marine units. This warfare device came into excistance just recently. Previous to it's enseption, a FMF ribbon was issued.

I could fill up 1000 pages about the FMF. This is just a general overview of our purpose. If you have any further questions regarding the Fleet Marine Force or the FMF Warfare Program, please contact me, or call your local recruiting office.
