The Science Page

Welcome to the science page...on this page I will put book reviews (crosslinked to the book review page) on books about Chemistry and Physics (if I happen to read other science related books, they will go here too). My BS degree is in Chemistry and I studied that most sublime of sciences for a number of years. Having both good and bad experiences, I will relate some of these experiences also (crosslinked where appropriate!).

More recently, I have fallen under the spell of Dr. Richard Feynman...a preeminent physicist. I have read most of his books and will offer book reviews on them. Dr. Feynman was a Nobel Laureate for his work in Quantum Electrodynamics (deep, deep field!). However, he was also a very light hearted person that had fun playing the bongos!! I think you will find some of the information on him enlightening!

But, here is a link to the first paper under this topic!! This paper originally resided in the Miscellaneous page, but now it is here!

It is a paper that I wrote while an undergraduate student in the Chemistry Department at Guilford College. It was for a capstone course called Senior Seminar. I recently found it after hooking up one of my old computers. It is interesting in that it attacks the concept of Fractal Analysis being used in the realm of Surface Science (a subset of Physical Chemistry). It is not as dull and boring as it may sound.

Fractal Analysis in Surface Science

The Science Masters Book Collection

The following books are in the "Science Masters" collection. These books are written by preeminent scientists in different fields. These scientists propose to write books that allow laypeople to understand the basics of the different sciences. I believe that this is a tremendous goal! As I read them, I will post book reviews...and more...I will attempt to paraphrase some of this fantastic work. This should in no way be substituted for reading these books...anyone with even a momentary interest in any science should find the book that covers that field (if it exists...some sciences are not covered). Of all the books I have read, I believe that this could be some of the most important. Why? Simple...they make important concepts available to all.

The Periodic Kingdom - Chemistry

Nature's Numbers - Mathematics
