A New Journey
The Adventures of Deacon Troll
"I'm not totally sure," replied Nelquishma.  "The Emporer Penguin wants you very badly for some reason.  I think that he's scared of you.  That's why he's trying to kill you."
"Why would he be scared of me?" asked the troll.  "I've never heard of him before.  Why would I be his enemy?"
"I'm not sure but I do know that he wants you out of the picture badly.  His invasion is about to be released upon the Earth and you are the only thing standing in his way.  I know not why, but I do know that if you do not succeed, all life on Earth will be snuffed out or a slave to an insuperior master."
"I thought you said that the penguins were more superior than us?" questioned Deacon.
"I said that they were more advanced, but they are not necessarilly more superior.  They follow a single leader and are not used to thinking for themselves very often."
"So what do you need me for?" inquired the troll.
Nelquishma replied, "We need you to stop the invasion.  We have already tried numerous times to foil their plans, however, the penguins are just too strong for us.  I have special agents all over the world who are all putting all their efforts into slowing them down but we have not yet been able to accomplish much other than to gather information."
"How am I supposed to stop this invasion?"
"I don't know."  Nelquishma paused.  "I am very sorry for asking this of you but it seems that you are our only hope."
The room went silent.  The brothers Dirt looked to each other, then to their master.  Arduanna stood quietly and inconspicuously, examining the conversation.  Nelquishma was anxious.  No emotion could be read from Deacon Troll's face.
Finally the troll gave the man his answer.  "The surface world holds no interest for me, however, these penguins, if I am to believe everything you say, sound quite unpleasant."
"Indeed, they are."  Nelquishma replied.  "And if you will please accept my proposal, there is something i urgently need to show to you."
        "Where would this be?"
"The surface.  We have to get to the surface and make our way to the southern hemisphere.  The penguins are starting their invasion there."
        "Master, no,"  said Burt.
"Don't listen to him, "said Kurt.
"I have a bad feeling about this," said Murt.  "Something feels bad."
The troll gave them a questioning look.  Deacon Troll had indeed felt it too.  There was something about his visitor that was giving him a bad feeling.  But he could also feel a sense of good.  Though there was a bad feeling behind it all, the troll sensed that the man's intentions were good.  The man did indeed need his help, and the troll also believed, for the most part, what the man was saying.  "I'll help you," the troll said.
The brothers Dirt gave a disapproving look, but there was nothing they could do.  Their master had made up his mind.
"Thank you very much," Nelquishma began.  "You have no idea how much this means to us.  But, we really must be going as soon as possible.  We have to get to the surface and make our way south."
"There will be no need of hurrying to much," the troll replied.
        "What do you mean?"
"I mean we don't have to hurry.  There is a faster way south down here in the Underworld, than any way you could ever find on the surface," Deacon Troll said.
        "How?" asked the man.
"The Lazerous Tunnel.  It can take us as far south as you want."
"The Lazerous Tunnel?  I've never heard of it.  Is it safe?" the man questioned.
"It was created as an escape route for the Underworld royal family in case of revolt.  Not many are supposed to know about it.  I know about it because, down here, it's my job to know everything."
The woman straightened up.  "Quickly, sir.  We must be on our way."
"I will have to show you the way to the caves.  But the brothers must come with me if I am to go with you," said the troll.
        "Of course," replied the man.
