Berlin 2001
One fine morning we took a walk along the canal. Not the sort of thing you'd do in a strange city, you'd think, but we felt really safe all the time we were there.

The canal skirts the edge of the Zoologische Garten, so the picture on the left is me making friends with a wildebeest.

The reason we were down by the canal in the first place was so we could pay our respects to Rosa Luxemburg. This tastefully understated memorial marks the spot where her body was dumped into the canal.
