WWBBA CONTEST 2017

At the West Wales Brass Band Association Festival of Brass held at Burry Port Memorial Hall on Saturday October 7th, the band were awarded the third prize in the Second Section, a very satisfying and rewarding result for both conductor and players for the tremendous hard work put into rehearsals over the last few weeks.

Musical Director Craig Roberts had chosen to play Bruce Fraser’s Verona Lights, and the band’s rendition was well received and drew praise from the adjudicator. The talented Mid-Rhondda Band deservedly won the section with Newport Borough Brass in second place.

SUCCESS FOR THE BAND AT THE NATIONAL EISTEDDFOD OF WALES 2017

The band were successful in being declared Second Section winners at the National Eisteddfod of Wales held at Bodedern, Anglesey in August. Despite being the only band competing in the section, the adjudicator was full of praise for the performance and declared the band worthy of being named Second Section Champion Band.

The bold but varied programme devised by musical director Craig Roberts commenced with Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s The Home Of Legends, followed by the contrasting Somewhere Out There played exceptionally by our talented solo horn Denise Baker. The third movement Galop from Malcolm Arnold’s Little Suite No 2 for Brass Band showed the band’s versatility before the grand finale - The Big Mancini arranged by Darrol Barry. This medley of Henry Mancini’s most well known compositions is popular with the players and the performance was well received by an appreciative audience in the eisteddfod pavilion.

The hard work of the bandsmen under the expert guidance of Craig Roberts was well rewarded and made the weekend stay in North Wales an extremely enjoyable experience.
