3. Of Wigs and Phone Calls
What a feeling of vulnerability coming over me
And I'm feeling weak and I can't speak
Never thought I'd give in so willingly to a human being
She lit another cigarette as she walked back to the makeup trailer. Everyone around her was setting up for a shot or getting ready. She looked around at the Rivendell scene. It was defiantly breath taking. She finally had a visual for her favorite book, which was bound to be her favorite movie. She walked by the trailers and came across Liv�s. She bit her lip. She could use some female bonding. She took her last puff from her cigarette and then smashed it into the ground. What did she have to lose? With her cigarettes in hand she knocked on the trailer door.
�Come in,� said a faint voice. She took a deep breath and opened the door. She then closed it quietly behind her, �Mackenzie! What a pleasant surprise!�
�Um�hi,� she said timidly. �I hate to intrude.�
�You�re not intruding. Your always welcome here,� Liv smiled.
Mack looked at a chair before plopping down into it. Liv gave her an odd look,� You don�t even want to know�� she shook her head.
�Want a break from the boys?� Liv questioned.
�That�s an understatement,� she sighed.
�We should go out sometime. Just us girls,� Liv stated.
�Right now I�ll do anything to get away from them,� she shook her head. She really needed a cigarette right now. She tapped the pack in her hand.
�Did you hear Orlando has good news?� Liv said excitedly.
Mack shook her head no, �It�s good to hear that somebody has good news.� She looked at her. She shook her head again. �It�s nothing.�
�Well, it�s obviously something if you�re being fidgety,� Liv raised an eyebrow.
Mack changed the subject, �A girls day out sounds good.�
Liv looked her over, �A makeover should be in order too.�
�Oh no no!� she almost fell out of her chair.
�Well, you need something besides band t-shirts and jeans,� Liv stated. �Besides there�s going to be a banquet and you need to get something nice to wear.�
She sighed, �When�s the banquet?�
Liv smiled, �In two days but we need to go shopping first.� Mack frowned. �Come on you can look really nice! It�ll be a good change. Plus you can show the boys what you�re really made of.�
Mack raised an eyebrow, �If I wanted to do that then I�d re-enlist.�
�Yes, I saw your salute at breakfast,� Mack laughed nervously. �You can be the belle of the ball! Come on take a chance. Maybe one of the boys will look your way.�
�Whoa whoa. What does that have to do with anything?� Mack�s eyes widened.
Liv put her hands up in defense, �I was just joking but it will make them wonder what they�re missing out on.�
She sighed heavily, �Fine. I�ll do it, but no waxing. I swear to god if you get that Nads crap anywhere near me��
�All right. All right. No wax. Deal?� Liv put her hand out.
�Deal,� they shook on it.
�You won�t be sorry. I promise,� Liv said.
�Do I need a date for this banquet�thing?� Mack asked.
Liv shrugged, �It�s not a must but I�m sure one of the boys will ask you. All you need to do is dress up a bit.�
�Dress up a bit?� Mack didn�t like the sound of that.
�You know. Wear a nice shirt and pants. Maybe even a skirt,� Liv said casually.
She sighed, �Fine.�
Liv smiled, �We�ll go shopping the day before the banquet. I don�t have to film then.�
A knock sounded on the door, �Liv you�re needed on set.�
�Well, it was nice talking to you.� Liv said.
She nodded, �I�ll see you soon.� Liv walked out the door and Mack sighed in relief. That didn�t go too bad. She just had to dress up on an outing and get a makeover for this banquet thing. She picked up her cigarettes and left the trailer. She walked back to the makeup trailer. To enter or not to enter? That was the real question. She finally opened the door to see the boys getting their hair slicked back for wigs. She threw her cigarettes on the counter.
�Zee, where have you been?� Bill asked.
�I went to eat breakfast and then I talked with Liv,� she checked behind herself once again before she sat down.
�How is she?� Elijah asked.
�Huh? Oh, she�s good. She�s filming right now.� Mack answered. �Is there a lot of filming today?�
�I don�t think so. Depends on if we get it right on the first take or not,� Elijah answered. She nodded.
�So, are we going out tonight?� Dom asked.
�Well, we don�t have to be here until later in the day. I think we�re filming some night shots,� Sean stated.
�Right, so, everyone to the pub tonight?� Billy asked.
�Cheers to that,� Mack yelled. Everyone looked at her. Billy and Dom high-fived her.
�Now that�s what I like to hear!� Dom grinned.
�Can I try on a wig?� she said suddenly.
�Well that depends. Will there be sex involved?� Billy asked.
�Um�� she turned to Elijah. �Can I try on your wig?�
He shrugged, �Sure why not?�
She clapped and sat in an empty makeup chair. �We actually have an extra wig,� Donna said. �I hope you don�t mind being a brunette.�
�Are you kidding? I dyed my hair to be a brunette!� she practically squealed with delight as Donna pulled her hair back.
�Wait, you dyed your hair brown? What�s your natural hair color?� Dom asked.
�I�m a red head,� she replied.
�A red head? Wouldn�t have guessed that one,� Sean said.
�Well with her temper and all�� Mack gave Elijah and evil glare.
Donna started to fit Mack�s hair into the wig, �I�m going to be a hobbit lad. I�m going to be a hobbit lad.�
�Is that something to be proud of?� Dom asked.
�Damn straight it is,� she said. �Guess I have to pee like a hobbit lad too. Into the brush I shall go!� Everyone laughed. Even Donna.
�Your lucky your hair isn�t that long. Otherwise it wouldn�t fit,� Donna said.
�I got my hair cut and dyed yesterday,� she replied.
�How do you pay for something like that? Isn�t it expensive?� Sean asked.
�I used Elijah�s credit card,� his eyes widened. �I also bought twenty cds, a DVD player, and all of Josh Hartnett�s movies. Hope you don�t mind Lij.� Elijah look mortified. �Elijah I�m just joking. It wasn�t really expensive or anything. Sixty including tip.�
�Josh Hartnett movies?� Dom asked.
Elijah and Mack laughed, �Little Mack here had a crush on Joshy poo during The Faculty.�
�Oh come on I did not,� everyone looked at her. �Okay, I�ll admit he is very attractive. Why does it matter anyways? I was only there for a while before I was shipped out to training camp. It�s not like he had feelings for me anyways.�
�I don�t know Mack. He was really concerned about you when you were leaving. He wasn�t the same after you left.� Elijah said.
�Oh BS. Like I wanted to see him make out with what�s her face anyways,� she pretended to gag. �You know we have that banquet thing on Saturday maybe I should call him up and ask him to be my date.�
�Banquet?� Dom questioned.
�Yeah, Liv told me you guys had some banquet thing to go to. Either that or she just wants to get me dolled up for no reason.�
�You dolled up?� Billy raised an eyebrow.
�Oh shut up! I do dress up sometimes.� She said.
�She went to an award show with me before. She did dress up. But only because she didn�t have a choice.� Elijah said.
�Anyways! What do you guys think? Should I call Josh up?�
�I think it would be kind of odd to not see someone for a while and then call them up and ask to be your date.� Billy said.
She frowned, �I guess your right.�
�From woman to woman I think you should really consider it. Just call him up and see if he�s free. If he is then just slightly mention it and see if he�d be interested,� Donna said.
�Donna have I told you that I love you?� Mack smiled.
�No, I don�t believe you have,� she smiled back.
�Can you hand me my purse?� Mack asked.
�You going to call him right now?� Elijah asked.
She shrugged, �Why not? Besides I�ll just be sitting here anyways.� She got her phone from her purse and dialed the number.
�Go Zee. Go Zee. It�s your birthday,� Billy said.
She rolled her eyes, �hi Josh! It�s Mackenzie Evers. You probably don�t remember me. Yeah, that�s me.� She laughed. �So how have you been? That�s good. I�m great. What have you been up to? Oh I see lots of movies. Well, that sounds like fun. Pearl Harbor with Ben Affleck? That sounds smashing. Uh huh. Listen, Elijah and I have this banquet to go to on Saturday. Yes, this Saturday. New Zealand. Elijah�s filming a movie here. Yup, that�s the one. Do you think you�d be able to come? I know it�s short notice and all. Really? Well that�s smashing! When do you think you can come in? You can get a flight tonight? Well, you�ll probably be in tomorrow then. Bring something nice to wear. Okay, I�ll see you tomorrow. Cheers.� She hung up.
�So?� Everyone was looking at her.
She broke out into a smile, �He can come! He�ll be here tomorrow. Omigod I�m so happy.�
�See, I told you!� Donna smiled also. �Well, your all done. Enjoy it. I�ll take it off when everyone else�s come off.�
�Thank you so much Donna! For everything,� she hugged her.
�No problem. Well, the rest of you are done so get the hell out.� Everyone laughed as they gathered their belongings and walked out the trailer door.
