Facing Your Fears (Learning To Fly)

2. A New Gollum

I'm kinda lost in my own thoughts of you My heart speaks before my mind thinks through And I blush as I say yes

Socan I go home yet? Dom asked.

Elijah snickered, We havent even made it to the car yet. Mack unlocked the car with a beep and rolled her eyes at their antics.

Dom plopped into the car; Im in the car now. Can I go home?

Mack put on her sunglasses, If anyone deserves to go home it should be me. I could really use a nice hot bath right now. She sighed.

Can I join you? Billy asked. Mack raised her eyebrow.

Shot down! Elijah yelled.

Its not like Id invite you either. Billy and Dom laughed. I wouldnt invite any of you.

Aw why not? Itd be fun! Billy pleaded.

I will never be naked in front of any of you. She said simply.

Well Billy I guess we can put that camera away Dom said. They all laughed and Mack just shook her head.

Its way too early for this, Mack said as she sipped her coffee.

Through all of the talking, nagging, and laughing they finally made it safely to the set. With a yawn and with another cup of coffee in hand Mack walked into the makeup trailer where the hobbits were sitting to get their feet put on.

Good morning Mackenzie. I like what youve done with your hair, Sean said.

Your too damn cheerful for my liking, she said as she practically inhaled her coffee. She set her now empty cup of coffee on the counter next to her.

Bad day? he asked.

Bad past, she muttered. She plopped into a nearby chair.

If you wanted to sit on my lap all you had to do was ask.

She screamed and jumped out of the chair. She turned around to see Orlando, Jesus Christ! Dont ever to that to me again!

By the way I like what youve done with your hair. It woke me up, he said as he flicked a lock of her hair. She glared at him and he put his hands up in defense I mean no harm. I was just joking. Honest.

She sighed, I dont know if I can deal with this anymore. She was practically talking to herself. Nobody could hear her.

I think we found a new Gollum, Elijah said. Her response was the middle finger. The rest of them laughed, but she didnt seem to find it amusing. She frowned, grabbed her cigarettes and lighter, and left the trailer. Once outside she hastily lit her cigarette.

You know you really shouldnt be doing that, a voice said from behind her.

Vig, Im not in the mood for a lecture today, she took another puff Dont worry its only my second one. I swear.

You shouldnt be smoking period, he answered.

Yeah, well, you havent seen what I have. You havent been to hell and back, she inhaled again.

He sighed, Maybe I havent but I know you shouldnt be smoking. She shrugged, finished her cigarette, and then put it out.

Your hair is really amusing, he said.

So Ive heard, she rolled her eyes.

Are you ok? she looked at the ground. Mackenzie. Im being serious. Are you ok?

She looked at him through glassy eyes, I dont know anymore Vig. I just dont know.

Come here, he motioned to himself. She walked over and wrapped her arms around him. I may not have been through whatever you have, but I swear on my life. I will protect you.

She smiled through the tears that were forming, I think your getting too into your character Vig. He laughed and she did too. For once in her life she felt like she had someone to turn to, but most of all she had someone to look out for her.

Do you want to get something to eat? She nodded and followed him to the breakfast buffet that was set up.

Good morning Viggo. Mackenzie! Its good to see you! it was Sean Bean.

Good morning, she sat next to him with her coffee and bagel. Then, she put her cigarettes to the side.

He raised his eyebrows, You want to die young?

I went through Somalia without getting shot. I think Ill be fine.

The Middle East? he questioned.

She stood up and saluted him, Ranger Evers reporting sir! she sat back down and began to eat her bagel. Everyone was looking at her What? Do I have cream cheese on my face?

I didnt know you were in the military, Sean said.

I really dont like to talk about it, she shook her head. Bad experiences.

Understandable, the conversation suddenly changed. Mack threw away her trash and said her goodbyes.
