Friday, Apr 8, 2005 (7y+8m+2d)
The twins went to school as usual. The twins said they had been doing a lot of practice test recently. Their class will have a STAR test in May. The teacher set up a "bad list" for students to report bad classroom behavior. Jasmine put Annette's name on it. Annette told Jasmine she was not her friend any more. Daddy suggested Jasmine to give Annette a chance to correct the problem before reporting her. Jasmine said Annette deserved it because she misbehaved. The twins finished their work early. They played with their Neopets for the rest of the night. Mommy went to bed early. The twins took advantage of the situation and didn't go to bed until 11pm. Daddy had to drive them off the computer. They don't have bedtime story for the obvious reasons.

We stayed home all morning. We called Rachael and Claire to ask them to join us at the ice skating rink at 3pm. We arrived on time, Rachael arrived 45 minutes later. Towards the end, Rachael was scraping the ice with her skates on one end of the rink. The twins joined her to see what she was doing. The rink attendant came out and sent them off the ice. Jasmine was puzzled why other people were not getting off the ice. Daddy told her the session was not over yet. They were expelled off the ice because they scraped the ice. Jasmine said, "I told Rachael not to do that!"Claire's family arrived one and a half hour late. The session was over when they arrived. We went out to the park behind Rachael's house. Rachael asked her dad to toss out two frisbees and a soccer ball over the fence. The kids got a lot of exercise chasing after the frisbees, the ball and they also played hide and seek for a while.
After 5:30pm, we went to Annnette's house for her brother Alex's 4 year old birthday party. Several families were invited to the dinner party too. One teenage girl Alice took the lead to play piano and all the other girl took turn to play a piece too. Alex was not the youngest in the party. There was a new born baby and a 3 year old Katherine too. Alex fought with the little girl and he didn't take it lightly. He swang things and smacked the little girl by her head. I was glad that a baseball bat was not around at the time or someone might get hurt. Alex usually followed the bigger girls around the house and sought attention from them. But the smaller girl kept him busy tonight. While the adults chatted, some kids played, some kids watched TV. They watched The Incredibles before dinner and Raise Your Voice after. The party was over a little after midnight. We asked the twins to stay up until we got home. They got in bed on their own.
Sunday, Apr 10, 2005 (7y+8m+4d)
We went to lunch with aunt Elaine and grandma Chui. We returned home for homework and piano practice in the afternoon. The twins spent the rest of the day with their Neopets. At bedtime, we read about the Red Kid monster defeated the Monkey King with smoke and fire. Joanne said she was getting sick and she said she got from yesterday birthday party because someone was coughing at her. She said she had a runny nose since this morning.
Monday, Apr 11, 2005 (7y+8m+5d)
The twins went to school as usual. They did sculptures with play dough in their art class in school. They brought home their creation and proudly showed them to daddy. They finished their homework in the afternoon. Mommy promised them as incentive that they could stay in daddy spot if they finish their work on time. Daddy was replaced for the night with no say on the matter at all. Tonight we read about the Monkey King summon the dragon kings from the four seas to fight the fire and smoke, he was almost killed. After bedtime story, Jasmine received her reward to sleep in daddy's spot. Joanne still had a runny nose, she had to take a raincheck instead of risking mommy's health.
Tuesday, Apr 12, 2005 (7y+8m+6d)
In the morning, Joanne asked Jasmine "How was it? How does it feel to sleep in mommy's bed?" Mommy asked Joanne if she heard daddy's snoring. She said she heard that when she woke up in the morning. The twins went to school as usual. They had piano class in the afternoon. Mommy was lecturing the twins on how important it was to do well in school, so they can earn a good living. The twins said all they need to do is to marry a rich man. Joanne asked mommy if there was any art competition that she could participate in. Joanne worked hard to improve her handwriting. After their writing exercise, daddy critiqued on what was not done well, like this stroke was too long, that letter was too short etc. Joanne would immediately erase the problem areas and do it over again. Jasmine didn't care about her bad handwriting at all.At bedtime story, we read about the pig monster revived the dying Monkey King. Joanne grabbed her pillow and headed to mommy's bed to claim her raincheck from yesterday as soon as the bedtime reading ended. Daddy was replaced once again.
Wednesday, Apr 13, 2005 (7y+8m+7d)
The twins went to school as usual. They went to piano class in the afternoon. They took too long to finished their homework because they kept peeking at the TV across the room. They went to bed at 10:30pm. No bedtime story for later sleeper.
Thursday, Apr 14, 2005 (7y+8m+8d)
The twins went to school as usual. Mommy dropped off the twins at Benjamin's home after school. Mommy signed up for a tennis tournament for beginners. Tonight is her first tennis match. She won both games. Daddy delivered a pizza to Benjamin's home after work. Ben's mom provided some lamb shanks. The kids played on the playstation for awhile after dinner. We left at 8pm. As soon as they got into the car, Jasmine snatched Joanne's stickers from her hands. It started a fight and Joanne cried. Jasmine argued that it was unfair that Joanne got the stickers that she didn't get. Daddy ordered her to return the stickers because that was robbery. I told her the matter was not decided by what was fair or not. She had no right to take Joanne's stickers. It was simply wrong to do what she did. Jasmine was defiant and she hid the stickers as soon as she ran into the house. Daddy told her to return them before I counted to three or else she would be grounded. Jasmine broke into tears too because she still believed she was entitled to Joanne's stickers. She didn't budge when daddy counted to two. Only after I counted to two and a half and reminded her of the consequences, she handed over her loot very reluctantly back the crying Joanne. I told Jasmine that Joanne might be willing to share if she asked nicely. Joanne stopped crying and immediately ran to fetch a pair of scissors. Obviously Joanne still loved Jasmine despite the fight. The twins later took turns to read the words to the other in the dictation test. Mommy used to give the test to the twins. But the twins often complained that they got the test wrong when mommy mispronounce in Mandarin. Over time, mommy let them run the Mandarin dictation test between themselves. The same idea worked for English dictation too.
Mommy had a philosophy, the sooner the twins do things on their own the sooner we are rid of the chores. They took showers on their own years ago. They put on baby lotion after shower. They picked what clothes to wear everyday, all we had to do was to tell them the weather forecast. They made their bed every morning. On mommy's special request, they even could do the "housekeeper bed" which means extra tidy with all sheets tucked in snugly. Mommy had them fold the laundry too. They often left daddy's laundry in a pile after then folded their own and mommy's. Somtimes mommy had to force them to fold daddy's laundry also.
The twins finished their writing exercise late. The went to bed at 10:30pm. Again, the later sleepers didn't get their bedtime story.
Friday, Apr 15, 2005 (7y+8m+9d)
The twins went to school as usual. It was the last day of school before a one week springbreak. We took Joanne to see an orthrodontist. It was a free consultation session. The orthrodontist explains how to widen Joanne's jaws to make room for her teeth to come out and the plan to bring her crooked teeth back in place. He took a panaramic X-ray of Joanne's month. He said the entire process will be done in several phrases that span over 6 years. His quote was $5800. We were shocked by the price and would not make any decision soon.
Daddy's car was in the shop until tomorrow. Mommy gave daddy a ride home. The twins came to daddy's office for a brief visit. The first thing they cared about was to log into the neopets website to check their pets. So daddy got home early that usual today. We later went out to dinner at a ramen restaurant. Joanne said mommy had fallen in love with ramen because we had that too many times recently. She said she like udon better.
The twins practiced piano and did homework after dinner. For their piano class, they each made a lion mask. They played a piece of music on CD and performed a lion dance in front of us. We measured their height. Jasmine was exactly 4 feet tall. Joanne was a quarter inch shorter.
Saturday, Apr 16, 2005 (7y+8m+10d)
Terence's family came to the tennis court in our neighborhood. We played tennis with them in the morning. Mommy left early for her own tennis lesson. After tennis, we went to home to take a shower. Mommy came home and picked us up. We went to Terence's home for lunch. We told the twins on the way that we were very late for the musical play. So we could only spend 5 minutes for lunch. When we arrived, Terence was still eating slowly. We sat down and devoured the lunch as fast as we could. We walked in and out the door in about 8 minutes. We started later than Terence, but we finished before he did. Terence hurried up and he finished lunch much faster than usual too.We carpooled to Villa Montalvo to watch a musical play "Beauty and the Beast". We arrived just in time, thanks to the rushed lunch performed by the twins. Terence broken into tear sometime ago when his mother told him about the play at Villa Montalvo. Terence remembered that was the place he lost his favorite toy Green Puppy. However, today, he was quite excited to visit Green Puppy. Obviously, he has already grown past the grieve of his lost toy. After the play, the kids ran to the spot. We all peeked into to sculpture to see Green Puppy still lying there just like few weeks ago.
Due to the tennis exercise in the morning and the rushed lunch, everyone was hungry after the play. We went to Elephant Bar Restaurant to have an early dinner. We stopped by the car dealership to pick up daddy's car. The dealer said the warning light was a false alarm due to computer software glitches. They followed the computer log of errors to inspect all the alleged sources of problems, none of the problems was verified.
We came home to play Chinese domino game. The kids played on their own. They watched TV, played video games together. Mommy cooked some udon at around 9:30pm. The twins cheered and devour the late dinner. The adult continued on the game. We told the twins that they could stay up if they wanted or go to bed if they were tired. They chose to stay up playing on the SONY playstation. They also watched Stewart Little 2. Terence fell asleep on the soda before the end of the movie. Mommy sent the twins to bed before midnight. Daddy gave the guests a ride home, since they travelled in our car all day.
Sunday, Apr 17, 2005 (7y+8m+11d)
Due to the late activity last night, we all slept in in the morning. We had brunch with Terence's family at the twins' favorite Original Pancake House. We then went to the park to play tennis. Jasmine stayed with the game but Joanne and Terence sat on the sideline to play with the tennis balls without their rackets. Daddy asked if they wanted to go to the playground instead. Joanne played for awhile in the kiddie playground and she was bored. She wanted to go to the big kids playground at the other end of the park. Daddy asked Jasmine if she wanted to go too. She did. Mommy continued her tennis game. Daddy and Terence' mom took all the kids to the other end of the park. They had a blast at the other playground. Terence had his charm with girls. He made friend with a girl within minutes and played with her for a long time. When mommy was done with her game, we went to a sportgoods store to look for bigger bikes for the twins. They were still riding a 12" wheel bikes. They could have switched to a 20" wheel bikes long time ago. We were just looking for now. But they definitely need a bigger new bike before summer. We got home at around 5pm. Mommy took a shower. Daddy took a nap on the sofa. The twins played Kingdom Hearts on the Playstation.
We went to a Hunan restaurant at 7pm. Terence had a dinner with his grandparents. We were invited to join their family dinner too.
We went to cousin Natalie's home after dinner to pick up something. The twins didn't waste the brief encounter with their cousin. They played dodge balls until we left. The twins took a short nap on the way home. Daddy carried Jasmine inside the house. When daddy put the sleeping kid down on the sofa, she said "tricked you!" The twins were quite heavy nowadays. Carrying them put quite a strain on the back. Daddy learned the lesson, Joanne was asked to get into the house on her own feet. The twins stayed up for another hour before going to bed because they wanted to check their email. Jasmine found an email from Annette and she promptly reply to it. Daddy pointed out that the email was dated Mar 22. That showed how ofter the twins check their email. Joanne checked her email too. Her mailbox was stuffed with SPAMmed mail. Daddy sent her to bed because it took forever to go through all the SPAMs. We didn't have bedtime story for many nights now because the twins stayed up too late everyday. They were not in a hurry to get in bed because they didn't have school for the coming week.
Monday, Apr 18, 2005 (7y+8m+12d)
The twins didn't have to go to school this week. It was the spring break. They stayed home for a while, then they went out to lunch with Benjamin and his mom. After lunch, they went to the playground together. Then the twins went to miniature golf with Rachel and Itaka. Itaka was a Japanese classmate in their tennis class. They then went to the playground again with Itaka. Then they came home. They practiced piano and mommy had them work on some math workbook we bought from Costco. After their assignment, they played on the Internet with their neopets.
Joanne said Jasmine was more than her sister, she was her best buddy. For bedtime story, we read about the Pig Monster being sacked and hung on the ceiling. The Monkey King had not recovered his power yet. He sneaked into enemy territory instead of fighting hard, he fought smart.
Tuesday, Apr 19, 2005 (7y+8m+13d)
The twins followed mommy to her tennis lesson. Then they had lunch with one of mommy's tennis classmate. Mommy's classmate was also Itaka's mom. Itaka came to our house to play in the afternoon. The twins soaked in the bathtub before dinner. They practiced piano before bedtime. Daddy was busy tonight. The twins were sent to bed with no bedtime story. They didn't mind.
Wednesday, Apr 20, 2005 (7y+8m+14d)
Mommy took the twins to Monteray Bay Aquarium. Two other families from the twins' class joined them. Ashley and her brother came with their mom. Rachael came with her parents. They spent almost 4 hours in the aquarium. They came back just in time for their piano class in the afternoon. They practiced and did piano homework after dinner.
Jasmine asked daddy, "Do you know why you like to play your guitar?" Daddy said, "Why?" Jasmine said, "Because it shapes like a woman, and you like to hold her around her butt."
For bedtime story, we read about the Monkey King sought help from Guanyin to tame the Red Kid Monster and rescued his master.
Thursday, Apr 21, 2005 (7y+8m+15d)
The twins were still in their Spring break. No school for them this week. I didn't write now what we did. Now I cannot recall anything. For bedtime story, we started a new chapter in which the pilgrims arrived in a town where the Taoist monks enslave the Buddhist monks.
Friday, Apr 22, 2005 (7y+8m+16d)
The twins were still in their Spring break. No school for them this week.Mommy and twins picked up Terence's family in the mid afternoon. In late afternoon, they picked up daddy from work too. Then, we headed towards the High Sierra during rush hour. We let the kids watch DVD on the way. Then we asked them to take a nap. We arrived at Sacramento by 7pm. We had dinner there. Betsy, Kenny and their son Cornell stopped by the restaurant to say hi to us. We continued our way up the mountain at around 9pm. The kids watch another movie on the way. We arrived at Squaw Valley in just 90 minutes. Most of the trip was spent stuck in traffic during rush hour. Once the traffic is clear, the rest of the trip was fast. We check into the hotel for the night. We rented condo style unit with a kitchen.
Saturday, Apr 23, 2005 (7y+8m+17d)
We got up early. After a quick breakfast in the room, we dropped off the kids at the ski school. The ski school started at 9am and ended at 3:45pm. It was basically a day-care center to free the parents from the kids. Terence took the beginner's class at level I. He practiced all day on the slope outside of the school building. The twins took the level II+ class. The instructor took them up the mountain.Hing and Lucy decided not to ski, they hung around in the village of Squaw Valley. Daddy and mommy went up to the High Camp on the top of the mountain. Mommy took a beginner class. Daddy felt bored and skied back down to the bottom and took the funitel back to the top again. Daddy found and joined mommy again until the end of her class. Then we skied down the mountain run trail to the bottom. Mommy fell down couple of times along the way. Hing and Lucy joined us for lunch when we got back to the base. Betsy, Kenny and Cornell came up the mountain from Sacramento. They also joined us for lunch. After lunch, they played sledding on the snow. We returned to the top of the mountain. As soon as we stepped out of the funitel terminal, we saw the twins and their instructor skiing by. They waved at us when we called them. We hurried up to tighten our boots and put our skis on. We chased after them immediately within a minute or so. We didn't see them anymore. We took our chance and tried one of the chairlift we thought they went on. We failed to find them on the slope. It started to snow in the afternoon. After a few runs, mommy said it was to windy to ski and she took the funitel back to the base. Daddy continued to ski many more runs for the rest of the afternoon.
Cornell and the kids did more sledding and played in the snow in the afternoon. Cornell and his parents returned to Sacramento before it got too dark. We had dinner at a steakhouse in the village. After the kids finished dinner early, they went to the live jazz pianist and watched him perform. The pianist asked Terence to help him hit some notes to complete the music. The kids had fun and the pianist was happy with the tips the kids gave him too.
After we returned to the room and sent the kids to bed. The adults play the game of Tin Gow with Chinese dominos.
We later found out that they actually skied down the mountain run trail like we did in the morning. Both twins said they tumbled once and they fell so hard that the skis came off. Joanne wanted mommy to massage her knees in the evening, but she didn't complain afterwards. The good thing is that the twins could promote to level III+ next time. They have already mastered the skills of snow plow turns and stops. The upcoming level III is for parellel skiing.
Sunday, Apr 24, 2005 (7y+8m+18d)
We cooked breakfast before we packed and checked out from the hotel before 11am. We left Squaw Valley and went to the Squaw Creek Resort. They had an empty ski slope behind the resort. We let the kids sled and play in the snow. We left the area at around 1pm. We stopped for lunch in Sacramento at around 3pm. Right after lunch at around 4:30pm, mommy got the news on the phone that Benjamin had his new baby sister today. The twins were excited for Ben.We arrived home before 6:30pm. We let the kids play on the drive way. They started with bicycles and scooters. Then we taught Terence how to balance on the scooter. Later, they drew pictures on the driveway with chalks. They started with hopscotches, and some flowers, and then they grinded the chalk into powder and mix the colored powder into different colors. They spent almost an hour and a half on the driveway. Since we had a late lunch, we just let them kill time before we were hungry for dinner.
We went out to dinner at Maru Ichi Ramen. We then dropped off Terence and his family at their home at around 9:30pm. We all had a good sleep at night after a long trip.
Monday, Apr 25, 2005 (7y+8m+19d)
The twins returned to school after a week long Spring break. Mommy was mad at the twins for making a mess in the afternoon. She helped the twins to push the whole mess on floor and had them pick the mess up. Joanne didn't like mommy tactic. She expressed her protest by drawing a picture on one corner of her homework. Her picture depicts a kid labelled "me" holding an adult lablled "mommy" by the feet and slamming her on the wall with a label "bruise" near the head.. While they did their homework and practiced piano, Joanne called daddy many times over the phone. One of their Chinese homework was to write about their happiest and sadest things they did during the Spring break. Joanne wrote that the happiest thing she did was sleeping in the hotel; the most hard broken thing during the holiday was tumbling on the ski slope.
Tuesday, Apr 26, 2005 (7y+8m+20d)
The twins went to school as usual. They had piano lesson in the afternoon.Ben's mom was still in the hospital because of the C-section operation. He spent the past two nights at his classmate Taylor's home. His mom did not want to bother Taylor's family for too many nights, so Ben came to stay overnight with the twins tonight.

Thursday, Apr 28, 2005 (7y+8m+22d)
The twins went to school as usual.Mommy ordered the twins to do homework before she took a nap in the afternoon. Joanne hadn't done much when mommy got up. Joanne's habit of procratenation often got to mommy's nerves. The time she wasted in the afternoon must be made up in the evening after dinner. She didn't finished all her work until 10pm. Jasmine was only a little better. When daddy checked their homework, both of them made a lot of mistakes. That was not a good sign because they were supposed to take the California state STAR test next week.
The twins stayed up past 10pm every night of the week. Daddy's rule was that no bedtime story would be told if they were not in bed before 10pm. They hadn't have bedtime story for the past week. The last story was told on the night before we went on the ski trip a week ago.
Friday, Apr 29, 2005 (7y+8m+23d)
The twins went to school as usual. While the kids were in school, mommy went shopping for Joanne a new dress for her piano recital earlier in the week. Joanne took a look and immediately rejected it. Jasmine accepted hers last week. Mommy had to shop again after returning the rejected dress. Joanne liked mommy's choice this time.
The twins went to play tennis with mommy after school. Daddy had dinner with them in a restaurant. At bedtime, we resumed the story after a week-long hiatus.
Saturday, Apr 30, 2005 (7y+8m+24d)
Mommy went to her tennis lession. Daddy and the twins went to lunch with grandma Chui. In the afternoon, we played tennis with Terence's family and Benjamin. Since Ben's parents were busy with a new born daughter, we figured Ben would enjoy an afternoon of activities with us. The kids played tennis for awhile and then they follow lucy and Terence to the playground. Ben brought along a playground ball, we played passing the soccer on the lawn of the park.Terence's family went to Oakland for a family dinner with the grandparents in the late afternoon. After tennis, we all went home. Ben stayed with the twins to play Neopets on the Internet until his dad came to pick him up.
We went to dinner at a Japanese restaurant. The twins each ordered a nabeyaki udon, not a kids meal. The waitress was surprised to see that the twins both finished a adult size dinner without our help. The twins' appetite was as big as ours recently.
After we went home, daddy fell asleep on bed. The twins didn't wake up daddy for their bedtime story.
Sunday, May 1, 2005 (7y+8m+25d)
The twins got up at 8am. Mommy shampooed them and braided their hair. She served them breakfast and then dressed them up in their new formal dress for their piano recital. They were dressed up so nicely that daddy had to take pictures for them. We also videotaped their dressed rehearsal at home.We arrived at the recital hall in University of Santa Clara at 12:30pm. They went in for a rehearsal and all parents were sent out to wait in the hallway. The recital started at 1pm and ended at 3pm. Benjamin and one of their ex-classmate Christopher also performed in the recital. Rachel and her mom, Claire and her family, Terence and his family all came to see the performance. The twins played in the garden outside of the recital hall afterwards. Claire and Christopher's family joined us for a late quick lunch at Cheesecake factory. After lunch we went inside Valley Fair mall for some shopping. Jasmine bought a set of snorkling gear for her Fluffy from the Build-a-bear Workshop. Joanne bought a toy bunny for her Bearemy. They got the idea from their Neopets because their Neopets on the Internet had their own pets called Petpet. So Joanne's stuffed animal would also need a stuffed animal as a toy. Joanne said mommy didn't let her buy another stuffed aninmal because they already have over a hundred of them literally. Joanne begged and mommy approved after seeing the price tag. Joanne's choice only cost one third of what Jasmine would buy. Joanne said the bunny's name is Angelina. After shopping we went to the Ramen restaurant for dinner. The three families parted their way after dinner.
When we got home, the twins played with their new toys. Fluffy dressed up as a diver. Daddy played back the video footage and photos taken earlier in the day. The twins were sent to bed at 10:30pm. No bedtime story for them.
Monday, May 2, 2005 (7y+8m+26d)
The twins returned to school after the weekend. Jasmine said Annette wrote her a note telling her she was no longer her friend. Annette was mad when she found out that she was not invited to the twins' piano recital. Mommy thought their family went to Las Vegas on vacation this weekend. Turned out they would go next week, mommy was off by one week. I told Jasmine not to be too concerned about Annette's threat because she would forgive her in time. Annette also said she would not be friend of Jasmine after Jasmine put Annette's name on the class's bad student list. Yet, they were friends again. The teacher gave them no homework at all in preparation of the upcoming 2 week long STAR test. The only assignment for the kids this week was to relax and go to bed early. The twins told mom that the best way to relax was to let them play games on neopets.com. After they practiced piano, they got to play on the computer as much as they wanted.
We continued bedtime story and read about the Monkey King disguised himself as a Taoist demigod.
Tuesday, May 3, 2005 (7y+8m+27d)

The twins cheered because mommy seldom fed them deep fried food. Daddy went to grandma Chui's home for dinner. We din't have bedtime story tonight.
Wednesday, May 4, 2005 (7y+8m+28d)
The twins went to school as usual. STAR test continued at school. They have a piano group class in the afternoon. The teacher gave a bracelet to Joanne as an award. The teacher praised Joanne in front of the class as the best performer in Sunday's recital. There were 35 performers ranging from beginners to skilled pianists. Some of her students had passed the 8th level in some Royal Music Academy test. The performances ranged from simple 40 seconds short pieces to 20 minutes long number. Almost everyone made mistakes such as untimely pauses or out-of-tune note. The teacher said Joanne was the only student that delivered a smooth performance. Joanne was quite relaxed from beginning to end when she played the first part of Beethoven's Fur Elise. The twins' group lesson had 6 students in their class and Joanne was the only one in her class assigned a piece that used the foot pedal of the piano.
We went out to dinner with Terence's family as an early celebration of Mother's day. We arrived at the restaurant at around 7:30pm. We left before 10pm. On the return trip, the kids took turns to tell riddles and jokes to entertain the adults. Terence got a good one. "What goes up when the rain comes down?" The umbrella. We were home by 10:30pm. No bedtime story for the twins.
Thursday, May 5, 2005 (7y+8m+29d)

Though there are many Mexican immigrants in California, we didn't have any friend who celebrate this holiday. The twins went to school as usual. They practiced piano after school as usual. They didn't have homework this week. Despite they wouldn't have the STAR test on Friday, mommy still sent them to bed early because they stayed uo late last night.
