City
of Portsmouth’s U14’s arrived at HMS Sultan for their Sunday morning fixture
against Gosport welcoming a break in the relentless rain of recent weeks. The
game started and soon it was apparent that City were the stronger side. An
early short corner in the second minute was awarded to City. Chris Stone
thundered in the shot only to see the Gosport goalkeeper made a tremendous save.
However Charlie Brazier came in for the rebound and put it away. Early blood to
City. As the game developed with captain JJ Seager leading his team with vigour
Gosport struggled to work the ball out of their own half. At the 15 min mark Charlie
Upson intercepted a 16-yard ball and skilfully supplied Jack Blaker who scored
Cities second. Soon after, from a short corner, Cities third goal came as
Charlie Brazier stopped the ball slipped it to the right for JJ Seager. His powerful
flick ripped into the top left netting. Eight minutes later Chris Stone received
a well-timed pass from JJ Seager and drove home Cities fourth. Just prior to
half time City was awarded yet another short corner. For the second time a
Chris Stone shot was saved but Charlie Brazier was on hand to score from a
rebound. This gave City a five-goal lead at half time.
The
second half started as the first left off with Gosport struggling to work the
ball out from the back. JJ Seager intercepted the ball at the 25yd line. Skilfully
working it through a mass of players to the top of the D, he then threaded it
through for Chris Stone to notch up the sixth goal. Sixteen minutes into the
half Charlie Upson’s efforts were rewarded as she scored from a rebound at a
short corner. Chris Batchelor, Gary Over and Jesse Laly provided the rock of
Cities defence. Their skilful tackling denied Gosport of any Goalscoring opportunities.
Chris Batchelor and Gary Over made many tremendous runs from the back to feed
the hungry strikers. Chris Batchelor’s efforts were nearly rewarded as he
almost gave City an eight goal.
Well done to City!!!!
Team: - JJ Seager (Captain), John Besset, Gary Over, Chris
Batchelor, Jesse Laly, Charlie Brazier, Ashley Thakore, Charlie Upson, Chris
Stone and Jack Blaker.
City
ventured out into the country on an away day to Bordon this Sunday morning. The
game started and it was apparent that this Bordon side was going to be no
pushover. However City took an early lead after Chris Stone, on his debut,
slotted home Cities first goal. The game was end-to-end stuff with both sides
creating good goal scoring opportunities. Cities early lead didn’t last long as
Bordon equalised. For the best part of the first half both sides defended valiantly,
but just before the break City took the lead with a goal from Charlie Brazier. Two – one to City at half time.
At half time it was decided to use Craig Martins tireless
running to mark Bordon’s influential player. This paid dividends early as
Charlie Brazier extended the City lead. Soon after Chris Stone added another
goal. City were now in a commanding position and Bordon’s heads were down. Tom
Newport who heard that before the game he was the terams leading goal scoreer
decided at this point to run his one man team. This paid off as he added Cities
Fith goal. But it was not all over yet as Chris Stone rounded off his debut
with another goal making it his hattrick. What a debut.
Well Done Cities U14’s
Team: - Charlie Brazier (Captain), Dave Fawcett (GK), Nav

City
of Portsmouth arrived for their early morning game at a wind swept Mountbatten
pitch without five players who were on duty elsewhere. However the U14 training
squad depth permitted a very strong U14B’s turning out for this local derby.
The whistle blown, Captain John Lock drove his team on. Cities game generated
great pace and intensity. Early pressure paid dividends as City won several
penalty corners. Ports & Southsea skilfully defended them and no goals were
scored. City sensed they had the upper hand and continued the pressure. Success
soon came with Jack Blaker driving home Cities first.. After 15mins City, whose
policy is to maximise the pitch time for all the squad, introduced Mike Russell
for his debut at U14 level. What a dynamo, no part of the pitch was left
untouched. After 2 further goals by John Locke and James Lawson City went into
the half time break 3 goals up.
For the second half Charlie Brazier
was now sweeping infront of Niky Zammitt, Craig Martin and Nav Dillon with this
looking a stronger set up. City continued to dominate during the second half
and Mike Russell’s skill and determination was rewarded as he slotted home
City’s fourth goal. What a debut !!!! Midfielder Luke Francis’s tireless
running and deft skills broke through Ports & Southsea many times linking
with Tom Newport, which lead to James Lawson scoring 2 further goals. This
being his first hatrick. Alex Thakore’s reward for his tremendous work in
midfield and up front came as he drove home City’s seventh goal.
The game was not all one-sided Ports
& Southsea had several notable attacks. Goalkeeper Dave Fawcett’s
concentration and control of his back four made sure that this led to no more
than one goal.
Well
done City’s U14B’s (B for Best)

Our intrepid hero’s embarked on a trip to Ryde on the Isle of Wight this morning for their fortnightly league match. We knew it was to be a special occasion because on arrival at the ferry terminal the Royal Navy lead out a flotilla of small yachts with their crews stood to attention. Also as we departed on the catamaran there was a fly past by six historic biplanes. It must have taken Ann, our manageress, a lot of time to organise. All this after a defeat by Hamble. My word what will she put on after this victory??!! We cannot wait.
The
game started - and very early on it was evident that City was the stronger
team. Ryde put together some very nice moves particularly from their younger
players. However first blood was to City as Charlie Upson scored from a penalty
stroke. Soon after a second goal was scored but who scored it? Tom and Helen agreed that one of them scored
it but didn’t know who (is this a new scientific phenomenon??). Helen soon
added a third maybe this answered the question. As we approached half time a
fourth was added by Ashley.
An
unusual atmosphere was felt at half time, strange from a team that dominated
the first half and was four goals ahead.
The
second half started, and the boys were playing with a fresh impetus. This reaped
an early reward as Charlie Brazier put away the fifth goal. A second penalty
stroke was awarded and again Charlie Upson was on hand to score it. Soon after
three more goals were added to an ever increasing score one from Nik Zammit and
two from Tom Newport. This brought the total to nine. But what happened next a
tenth? No! Ryde were not going to roll over and die they upped their game and
score two tremendous goals making it 9 – 2. As the game drew to a close Helen
scored our Tenth.
So
what was it all about at half time did the boys sense girl power? The end
result for the team was 5 for the boys and 5 for the girls.
The
team departed. Thanking Ryde for their hospitality and for transporting us all
from the ferry to the sports complex. All had a great day out.

The
under 14B XI played for their first time this Sunday against a competent Hamble
team. They showed that they needed time to get an understanding going between
themselves. Hamble capitalised upon this by putting the U14’s under prolonged
and intense pressure. Initially City dealt with this pressure due to some
tremendous saves from Goalkeeper Dave Fawcett. However City were struggling to
work the ball out of defence from 16yd hits. The Hamble pressure eventually
paid off and they took the lead. Galvanised by this Hamble continued to put
pressure on for the remainder of the first half and went into the interval with
a four goal lead. It was not all one sided as Nav Dillon at right half, was
instrumental during the first half in setting up City’s right side attacks
During
the half time break Alex Thakore (team captain) moved into the midfield and
City re-focused the back four Charlie Brazier, Craig Martin, Jack Blaker and
Nick Zamit to cope with the 16yd hits.
City, determined to fight back, immediately put Hamble under a lot of
pressure. With tremendous runs from midfield by Luke Francis and; linking well
with strikers Tom Newport and James Lawson goals seemed to be inevitable. City
pulled one back with a well-worked goal by Tom Newport. At this point the tide
seemed to be turning due to tremendous work of the midfield four Alex Thakore,
Luke Francis, Ashley Thakore and John Locke. Unfortunately Hamble score again
from one break away. City responded immediately with an Alex Thakore goal after
a great run. Nav Dillon came on at left midfield, City’s pressure continued
creating many goal-scoring opportunities but couldn’t turn the many shots on
target into goals.
