Genre: Action/Comedy/Television.
Studio: Fox 2000.
Production Company: Top Cow.
Project Phase: Development Hell.
Release Date: 2002?.
Who's In It: Unknown.

Who's Making It: Kevin Brodbin (Director, Screenwriter); Stephen J. Cannell, Spike Seldin (Producers); Marc Silvestri (Executive Producer); based on the 1980's television series The A-Team.

Premise: A renegade team of former Vietnam military officers run covert ops for cash while trying to stay one step ahead of their pursuers, the U.S. Military.

Comments: "When you're in trouble, for the right price, maybe you can hire...THE A-TEAM." When it debuted it swiftly became a Top Ten hit, sparking heat with parents for its portrayal of 'no harm done' violence. Will Cannell choose to go with the same stars in the movie incarnation (with the exception of George Peppard who's since passed away) or go with a new A-Team of movie stars? One of the deciding factors to develop this property must have been the smash success of 1996's Mission: Impossible film, which has already received a go for a sequel. The name is already known by the majority of the action genre film-going audience.

Scoop Feedback:

June 26, 1996... Universal has hired the screenwriter of Under Siege 2: Dark Territory to pen the first draft of the script (for $250,000 against $500,000 - in Hollywood terms this means Hatem receives a quarter of a million to write the script, and another $250,000 to bring his total paycheck to half-a-mil once the show gets a greenlight.) Cannell has said the show will be on par with any other major action release. [Additional info courtesy of Cory; orignally appeared in Variety. Scoop also reported by Christian (who may be related to 'Face'.)]

July 11, 1996... The makers of the A-Team movie may be considering Mel Gibson for the George Peppard role and would like the other three main actors to reprise their characters, but only in cameo roles. [Scoop overheard by 'ss1'.]

May 20, 1997... Yesterday, on a morning radio program hosted by 'Bob and Tom', one of the hosts said a final draft was turned in for the A-Team movie. The draft received a thumbs up from the studio execs. Also mentioned was that the makers of the film want a new cast in the project but would still like the old actors to make cameo appearances in the film. [Scoop submitted anonymously.]

May 24, 1997... Someone who claims they're a producer in the film biz told us that B.A. Barackus is coming back at ya, fool. Mr. T will have a extended cameo as B.A.. The other surviving A-Team stars will also have cameos. [Scoop sent in by Jordan Sessions.]

August 12, 1997... We're told that the B.A. Baracus character will receive third billing, with the Hannibal Smith and A-Team nemesis actors listed above. [Scoop handed in by '223'.]

August 22, 2000... Top Cow Productions has snagged this project out of the tenth circle of Development Hell for low-six against low-seven figures and it's now over at Fox 2000, where they're looking at developing it for release next year. [Originally appeared in Variety.]

February 7, 2001... Looks like you can start humming that theme song -- at least until lunch. Kevin Brodbin (scribe for The Glimmer Man) is now sitting in the big chair. No start date as yet. [Originally appeared in Variety.]

February 8, 2001... Mr. Black tells us that Brodbin will also be scribing the project. [Mr. Black pulled up in this wild black and red van.] Meanwhile, Internet 24-7 tells us that Zap2It.com is reporting a tentative 2002 release date. [Originally appeared at Zap2It.com, Cinema Confidential; scooped by Internet 24-7.]

February 9, 2001... In the midst of all the recent A-Team buzz, even more juicy tid-bits seem to be storming into our scooping compound. As this project appears to be picking up speed, we've managed to uncover what very well may be a few possible yet solid casting potentials for this resurrected television to big-screen feature. From what we've heard, Brendan Fraser, Taye Diggs, Mel Gibson, and Owen Wilson may be the new and improved members of the elite squadron. But wait, there's more...at this stage of the game, Bosnia may be the top spot for the film's backdrop.
