VUELTA A ESPAÑA 1999
After the last editing, in which Vuelta did not go through Asturias, in the 99 one the hardest stage finished in the Angliru. This stage was an old aspiration for the fans of cycling in Asturias and Sapin due to its hardness and beauty. Vuelta 99 entered in Asturias though Ventana and after passing through Teverga council, ciclists had to face with two first category climbs of The Cobertoria and The Soterraña, to finish in the terrible Angliru, out of category. In spite of rain and fog, the stage was a grat success and Jiménez got to be the first winner in Angliru.Olano could keep the leadership, which finally losed, and was obtained by Ullrich, final winner of the race.
Next day, The stage started in Gijón, and after passing through the eastern asturian coast, enterd Cantabria and finished in Corrales de Buelna, where won the french Laurent Brochard.
