Varibilichromis
Moorii

Thank you Cichlid Press and Ad Konings for allowing me to use your pictures.

This fish was called Neolamprologus Moorii but was changed to Varibilichromis Moorii. I have 6 of these little guys.  I got them via "The Cichlid Exchange" on 08/20/99 (see link page) I did have 3 adult females (top pic) of this fish but traded them for the smaller ones I have now.  I want to breed them and I can't do that with out a male. go figure.  I gave up on trying to breed this fish and I needed the tank space so I am no longer keeping this fish.

Tank size: 75 gallon
Tank Temp: 78 to 82
Tank pH: 8.0
Fish size when adults - 5" (13 cm)

Breeding Information:

Substrate spawner.  Prefers to spawn in secluded areas.  Many caves and passageways needed to be provided, and pair will stake out an area they find suitable to breed in.  Spawns numbering over 300 are not uncommon.  Juveniles may show a beautiful pastel yellow color over the entire body.  As the fish matures, it turns a solid, dark, brownish black. The dorsal, anal, and caudal fins are all trimmed in sky blue.  I have not spawned these fish, the breeding information is from several different places.  The 3 females that I used to have would spawn but the eggs of course did not hatch.  I can see that a spawn of 300 is very possible the eggs covered the rocks.
