Pseudocrenilabrus
Multicolor

The picture above is of a male.  Note the red dot on the anal fin.

This is a very nice peaceful cichlid.  The male, when an adult, gets some really wonderful color to him.  This species can be kept with other cichlids but they should be peaceful or this one may not make it.  It is a good idea to have at least 2 females per male to spread out any aggression when the male wants to breed.  In the wild this fish in found in the drainage basin from lake Edwards and others.  This is a hardy fish and makes a great addition to any aquarium.  I am looking for this fish so if anyone out there has any or knows where some are please let me know.  It has been several years sense I have had them and I really want them again.

Adult size: 7.7 cm

Breeding information:
This, is if you could not tell by the name, is a mouth brooder.  The female I had, her first batch had a total of 48 fry.  OMG you should have seen her poor face it was huge.  For about a week or so she would take the fry back into her mouth when ever we would get close to the tank.  Like most mouth brooders they hold the fry from 18 to 21 days depending on the species and the number of fry in the batch.  With this species you can tell the males from the females when still very young.  The males get a red dote on there anal fin and this is noticeable at about 1" to 1.5" in size.  The males are a great looking fish while the female stays a  rather bland color.
