This is one of the most popular of the algae eaters. I have found it very hard to put a Pleco in my African Cichlids tanks after the tank has Cichlids in it. If you want an algae eater make sure it is one of the first fish you put in your tank. When Pleco's are small they seem to do a much better job of cleaning the tanks so it's a good idea to start off with a small one. Pleco's will eat an variety of foods such as spinach, zucchini, peas, lettuce and algae wafers. It is a good idea to give one of this food items about twice a week. If you feed them these other food everyday they will not do a good job eating the algae. I have my pleco's in my larger tanks as I have found they also have a taste for fry.
