Neolamprologus
Leleupi "Dutch Orange"

For another picture of this fish click >>HERE<<

This is such a beautiful fish.  When in breeding color the male (shown above) gets blue on the gills and on the top of his head.  Unlike it cousin the Yellow Leleupi this is a fairly aggressive fish.  It has no problem protecting its territory or fry.  If you are breeding this fish its best to do so in a breeding tank so other fish do not get beat up or killed. I was lucky enough to be given another pair of these great looking fish from A fellow Tanganyikan fan.  Thanks Michael.  The pair I just got is very dark, the male is almost black at times and his fins have a black edge to them.  The female also is dark but not as dark as the male.

Tank size: 15 high a pair in each.
Tank Temp: 78 to 82
Tank pH: 8.0
Fish size when adults - 4.5" (11 cm)

Breeding Information:

On 09/03/99 my first batch (that I can save) of this beautiful Leleupi hatched.  This pair did breed in a community tank however I was forced to move them because of aggression.  I lost that batch of fry to the other fish in the tank.  I will not loose this batch.  Well, I messed up big time and my female paid the price.  When Leleupi breed you should separate the male and the female after the fry hatch.  I have a yellow pair of Leleupi that have been doing really well in a twenty long so I decided to leave this pair together.
