LAMPROLOGUS
MELEAGRIS PEARLY OCELLATUS

Thank you Cichlid Press and Ad Konings for allowing me to use your pictures.

This is another great little shell dweller.  It is also a tough little guy and holds his own against fish 3x is size.  I received 4 of  these fish via "The Cichlid Exchange" (see link on link page) on 08/20/99 so I really don't know much about them yet.  As I learn about them I will update this page so check back often.  I have had a batch of fry and only the female was defending the fry.

Tank size - 10 gallon
Tank Temp. - 78 to 82
Tank pH - 8.0
Fish size when adults - 2.5" (6 cm)

Breeding Information:

Substrate spawning shell dweller.  Spawning occurs in female's shell.  Male will defend the perimeter of the spawning site, while the female guards the shell and babies within. Sexing these fish is a little hard as the males and females are colored the same.  When adults the male is larger than the female also there is a way called Venting to tell the sexes.  See link below on Venting for information.
Update:
I know longer have these great little shell dwellers I lost them all do to a heater malfunction.
