Julidochromis
Regani / Kipili

Thank you Cichlid Press and Ad Konings for allowing me to use your pictures.

I ordered this from from Wet Thumb Aquatics  (see links page) I had this wonderful Julie once before and lost them do to a heater malfunction.  This is another fish very capable of taking care of its self in a community tank.  They are not really aggressive but will hold there ground against any other fish. Fish Arrived on Feb. 1, 2000 about 2.5" long.  I ordered 4 and received 4 of these great looking fish.  They arrived in great shape and are doing well in there new tank.

Tank size; 29 gallon
Tank Temp: 78 to 82
pH: 8.0
Adult size: Female 6" (15 cm) and Male 4" (10 cm) note the female is larger.

Breeding Information:

Lots of rocks and caves or shells recommended in order to get them to spawn.  I have great luck using a 20 gallon long to breed Julidochromis in.  Only one pair per tank if using a 20 long. Be careful if you have more than one species of Julie in your tank as they will cross breed.  Cross bred fish are mutt fish and should not ever make there way to a store.  Please do the hobby a favor and use any mutt fish as feeders.  I have had these fish breed at 2" in size but the spawn size is also small.  Julidochromis are great parent fish and the fry can be left with the parents until they are about 1" in size than they should be removed.  This may very so watch the adults when they start to show aggression towards the young take the young out.  This sometimes happens when a new batch of fry is about to hatch and the older fry could eat the new ones.  I have had as many as 3 batches in with the parent fish but when the fourth batch is spawned remove the oldest fry or the parent fish will kill them.  Here again this all depends on your tank and you pair of fish.
